Scenario—Midwest Soccer Club (Community Service)

MCIT supports their employee’s involvement in community volunteer organizations by allowing

employees to work a portion of their week on community projects. Your team is interested in supporting
the local soccer club. Midwest Soccer Club provides recreational and skill development for boys and girls
(ages 4-16) and they need help organizing their club’s recruitment and team organization. Specifically
they are asking your team’s help in producing quality solutions to meet their soccer club’s needs.

Task 1
Midwest Soccer Club is encouraging youth to sign-up to play soccer. Create a marketing flyer suitable for
distribution at local schools, sporting goods stores, etc. The flyer must describe the mission and benefits
of the soccer club, provide details regarding fees and deadlines, show an appropriate graphic and list the
benefits of playing soccer.

Deliverable: Sign-up Flyer

Create an informative letter to send to parents of children who have played for Midwest Soccer Club in
the past. Encourage parents to re-signup for the next season. You will need to create properly formatted
mailing labels in addition to the letters.

Task 2
Midwest Soccer Club needs to manage its revenue and expenses better. Your team needs to build a budget
spreadsheet to keep track of revenue (fee collection, field use by other clubs, donations, sponsorships,
etc.) and expenses (field marking fees, referee pay, balls, website fees, uniforms and other administrative
costs). In addition to a budget, the Midwest Soccer Club would like a worksheet to project how the
budget would change based on the number of paid players.

Task 3
Midwest Soccer Club would like to use a database to assign players to teams so they can generate various
reports by team and age group. Create a player table, a team table and a coaches table.

Create easy-to-use forms so Midwest Soccer Club volunteers can add new information as players join the
club and new teams assigned. Analyze the information in the tracking database by creating meaningful
queries. Create a player address report, coaches address report and summary report(s) of age groups,
teams and players.

Task 4
Midwest Soccer Club would like to get more parents to volunteer to help run the club. Volunteers are
needed to run the concession stand, take photos, update the website, order and distribute uniforms,
conduct soccer clinics, coach, be a board member, be a field marshal, etc.

The club is planning their annual parent meeting and would like your team to prepare a presentation
describing the volunteer opportunities and encouraging parents to choose a volunteer position within the
club.
