PAINTING

There are two types of white paint and they are zinc &TITANIUM. When painting, DARK COLOURS can be
easily cover over LIGHT COLOURS successfully. However, it can be very DIFFICULT to COVER DARK COLOURS
with LIGHT COLOURS. When painting, you will require FOUR sizes of paint brush and they are:
* SMALL#1 or #2
* Medium #5 or #6
* Large #9 or #10
* 2 “{inch} house paint brush

Do not use bristle paint brushes when painting on paper because, they will scrape the paper surface.
Bristle brushes are used on canvas. With paintings, balance is necessary. Balance means the distribution of
colours throughout the painting frequency and distribution of these PRIMARY COLOURS { FIRST
-FORMED COLOURS }

The primary colours are very important because , it is from these colours that some other
colours derive. The primary colours are: RED ,
BLUE, &
Primary colours

Primary colours

Red is associated with anger, danger, rage and excitement. Expression for “red
with rage “. Yellow is associated with sun, life, birth, happiness and other positive feelings. Expression for yellow
is bright as the sun. Blue is associated with sorrow and loneliness. Expressions for blue are ‘I have the blues.

Secondary colours
When two primary colours are mixed together , they form a secondary colour.
Red+ Yellow =Orange
Yellow + Blue = Green
Blue + Red = Green
The secondary colours are: green, orange and purple.

Complementary colours

Observe your secondary colour wheel and you will see that the yellow
segment is vertically opposite to the purple segment. Since they are opposite to each other, they are called
opposite colours. Opposite colours are also called complementary colours.
E.G. 1: Red and green are complementary colours
2: Blue and Orange are complementary colours.

Tertiary colours

The product of a primary and a secondary colour forms tertiary colour.


E.G. Yellow + Green =yellow - green
Colour properties
. Any colour has these properties. They are called hue, value and intensity. Hue is the name of the colour. E.g. red,
green, blue etc. Value is relative to lightness or darkness. Intensity refers to the relative purity of the colour.

Tint and shade

Tint is a colour that is lighter than the hue‘s normal value. E.g. pink is a tint of red. To get a tint, white is added
to the hue. Therefore, white added to red, gives the tint pink. Shade is a colour darker than the hue’s normal
value. E.g. maroon is a shade of red. To get a shade, black is added to the hue.

Value

Value refers to degrees of darkness or lightness, whether in colour or in black or white . Value can describe
objects, create shapes and suggest space .It ranges from snow white to prune black.
