VACANCIES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

CIRCULAR MINUTE:

The contents of this Circular Minute must be brought to the notice of all eligible officers and employees on
your establishment without delay, including those in all Regional / District offices. Institutions must notify
all candidates who qualify for post in this circular minute even if they are absent from their normal places
of work to apply.

DIRECTIONS TO CANDIDATES:

1. The following documents must be submitted:

(a) Application for Employment Form (form Z83), which is obtainable at any Government Department
or from the website – www.kznhealth.gov.za
(b) Certified copies of educational qualifications – not copies of certified copies.
(c) Curriculum Vitae.
(d) Certified copy of Identity Document.
(e) Certified copy of Driving licence (Code B).
(f) Proof of registration with the HPCSA plus current registration certificate with the HPCSA as a
medical officer.

2. The reference number must be indicated in the column provided on the Z83.

N.B.: Failure to comply with the above instructions will disqualify applicants.

SALARY & APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

MEDICAL OFFICER GRADE 1: R 821 205.00 per annum


MEDICAL OFFICER GRADE 2: R 938 964.00 per annum
MEDICAL OFFICER GRADE 3: R 1 089 693.00 per annum

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POST:

 Senior Certificate (Grade 12)


 MBChB. Degree or equivalent qualification; Plus
 Current registration with HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
 Registration with HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
 Proof of previous experience if any.
 Valid driver’s license.

Grade 1: Registration with HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner. Foreign candidates require 1


year relevant experience after registration with a recognized foreign health
professional council, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service;
Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical
Practitioner.
Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical
Practitioner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

 Sound knowledge of clinical and surgical skills associated within the practice of a District
Level Hospital, i.e. caesarean sections and spinal & general anaesthetics, ectopic
pregnancies, circumcisions and evacuations, etc.
 Knowledge and skills in medicine including HIV and TB, COVID-19, paediatrics, surgery,
obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, psychiatry, emergency medicine and
anaesthetics.
 Good communication and interpersonal skills.
 Teaching and supervision of clinical associates, junior doctors and students.
 Knowledge of all applicable legislation.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

 Adherence to standard treatment guidelines, protocols and policies.


 Clinical and administrative duties / responsibilities for the respective clinics under GJ
Crookes Hospital. (Provide out-reach services to PHCs)
 Implement quality standards and practices and treatment protocols as to ensure correct and
effective management of in and out-patients.
 Examination, diagnosis and treatment of patients in hospital and clinics.
 Diagnosing and facilitating referrals to higher level of care.
 After hours participation in call rosters. (commuted overtime is compulsory)
 Perform emergency procedures and administer anaesthesia.
 Application of family medicine to patients and relatives.
 Facilitation of staff training and ongoing medical education.
 Normal working hours 08H00 to 17H00 with half hour break in between.
