What are the advantages and disadvantages of

being part of either a large or small family? Give
reasons and examples to support your view.

Many people with small families often wonder how big families work,
and in the same manner, the members of a big family often wonder how
a small family works with do little manpower. Both of these situations
have their own set of difficulties and merits.
Small families, often consisting of two adults and one child, living by
themselves in their own house, there are many convenient advantages to
being a part of a small family, such as, the connection between family
members is often very deep and strong, as they spend a lot of their lives
together under one roof, they help each other whenever possible, as they
are usually close by due to the small housing space. Financially, small
families are often very stable due to the few number of people
purchasing goods and services, and the grocery costs would be little too
as there are less mouths to feed.
However, there are many disadvantages to being a part of a small family
too, some of them being, the child often grows introverted and
antisocial, due to the lack of sibling relationship, when growing up, the
parents often have play with their child to make sure the child is having
fun and not being lonely. Children from small families often have huge
pressure from their parents and responsibilities, as they are the only
successors, they have to work to be successful by themselves and take
care of their parents at the same time, which may be very stressful.
Like small families, big families have their own advantages and
disadvantages, the advantages being, having many people to lend a
helping hand around the house is very common, multiple members may
work together to complete one task, so the task is often finished quick
and the members of the family are not very tired. Children from big
families have playmates, with which they may develop their social
interaction abilities and skills, and the parents will not have to play with
their children to help the children have fun.
Big families have their own set of disadvantages, them being, the bonds
between each family member may not be as strong as a small family’s
bonds, as the increased number of people in the family reduce family
interaction with each other, the parent-child relationship in big families
are often very divided among the children, one may be treated better
than the other, as it is very difficult to treat them all fairly. Big families
are often financially unstable in the first few months, as having a big
family requires the purchase of a bigger house, more groceries as there’s
more mouths to feed and more education fees for the children.
All in all, having different sizes of families come with their own set of
advantages and disadvantages, people should look at the list of
advantages and disadvantages then decide which is better for their
situation.
