For ages, the family has been playing the most important role in people‘s lives but the

tendency to
have a small family is getting more frequent each year. When it comes to the size of the family, I
tend to believe, that a small family, just like a larger one, has both advantages and disadvantages.
To start off with the advantages of a small family, the main one is easier economic maintenance of it.
For example, a family with only one or two children has always had fewer mouths to feed, which
means that economic stability for it is less likely to be a problem than for a big family. In addition,
both parents and children have been benefiting economically while being in a small family. Children
are more likely to be easily provided with quality education and other life necessities, while parents
are less likely to worry about meeting both ends and feeling pressured on controlling the family
budget.
In contrast, disadvantages of a small family can be pointed out as well. For children, especially those
without any siblings, feelings of loneliness while growing up and difficulties with social
development had rarely been unavoidable. An only child might find it challenging to approach
someone new and might get lost and do not know how to act in certain social situations. When it
comes to loneliness, children with more siblings always had been less likely to face it. To add,
siblingless children have a higher chance of becoming spoiled. The lack of sibling relationships
comes in between learning necessary values, such as sharing and caring. It can also lead to the
development of negative values like selfishness and egoism.
To summarize, in my opinion, having a small family has both positive and negative aspects.
However, I believe in quality over quantity and the welfare of a family depends on caring and loving
relationships between family members rather than the number of people in it.
