If the demand for Avie’s product should drop in the future and the company is required to lay off
some of the staff on the third shift, what would be the best way to determine who, on this shift,
should be laid off? (Note that Avie is not unionized.)
Layoff in this case should be done on the basis of ability of the employees. As Avie is not
unionized, therefore choosing the employees to layoff based on the performance and ability of
the employees should appropriate as every employees in this case will be treated fairly and no
biasness in terms of seniority will affect this decision especially women and minority workers.

effectiveness of this strategy in a year’s time?
The Evaluation of the effectiveness of this strategy can be done through Benchmarking where
Avie can compare their year’s strategy with their competitors. This will show how fast and far
have Avie has progressed with this strategy in a year’s time.
