Society

What is society?
Society is an organized group of persons associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific,
political, patriotic, or other purposes.

The difference between a successful society and a failed society

A successful society is a society where people work hard together to get a great result in the end.
For example, Electric cars for the society are great because the people of the company worked together
to find a way to, make electric cars that way there would be no pollution which is also great for the
environment and society.

A failed or low-class society is a society where people do not care about each other. And Services and
utilities are weak because the government arent working hard enough and cooperation is not being
built.

Elements that make a successful society

The likeness of members in a social group is the primary basis of their mutuality. Maybe in the beginning
assumed or real common lineage, tribal affinity, family benefit, or the compactness due to a common to
time inculcated between and among the members in the group the feeling of likeness. Likeness means
mutuality, and that means Society.

The likeness is the link-up for mutuality. A sense of likeness is not always sufficient. It alone is not enough
for social organization. This does not exclude diversity or variation. The social structure of humanity is
based on the family which rests upon the biological differences between the men, and women. The
economic structure of society is based upon a division of labor in which the professions and economic
activities of people are different or dissimilar. The culture of society prospers with the differences in
thoughts ideals, viewpoints, etc. No two individuals are alike in their nature.

They differ from each other in respect of their interests, capacities, abilities, and tendencies, etc. These
differences do not imply mutual conflict; instead; by it, the organization of society is further
strengthened. A 100 percent organized society is not possible.

It is a myth. Society to run smoothly there must be some differences. If people were exactly alike their
social relationship would be very much limited. There would be little reciprocity, little give and take. They
would contribute very little to one another.
A society based exclusively on likeness or uniformity is bound to lose in socialites. Life would be boring,
monotonous, prosaic, and uninteresting if differences are not present. We cannot imagine a society in
which all people are adults or all old or all young. Having realized the chaotic state of society, the
importance of differences will be apparent.

Society means likeness but the contrary of the statement is not true. Differences are necessary to society
but it by itself does not create society. The difference is subordinate to likeness. Maclver says “Primary
likeness and secondary differences create the greatest of all social institutions- the division of labor”.
There were evolved conflicting management mechanisms to resolve the differences, yet despite it, these
were subordinated to the good of the totality.

Cooperation is also another essential element to constitute society. Without cooperation, no society can
exist. If the members of the society do not work together for common purposes, they cannot lead a
happy and comfortable life. Cooperation avoids mutual destructiveness and results in the economy.

Conflict is an ever-present in every human society. Not only cooperation but also conflict is necessary for
the formation of society. They must coexist in a healthy society. Conflict is a process of struggle through
which all things have come into existence.

Elements that create a failed society

A failed society is a political body that has disintegrated to a point where the basic conditions and
responsibilities of a sovereign government no longer function properly (see also fragile society and
society collapse). A society can also fail if the government loses its legitimacy even if it is performing its
functions properly. For a stable society, it is necessary for the government to enjoy both effectiveness
and legitimacy. Likewise, when a nation weakens and it’s standard of living declines, it introduces the
possibility of total governmental collapse. The Fund for Peace characterizes a failed society as having the
following characteristics:
● Loss of control of its territory
● Erosion of legitimate authority to make collective decisions
● Inability to provide public services
● Inability to interact with other states as a full member of the international community
Common characteristics of a failing society include a central government so weak or ineffective that it
has an inability to raise taxes or other support and has little practical control over much of its territory
and hence there is a non-provision of public services. When this happens, widespread corruption and
criminality, the intervention of state and non-state actors, the appearance of refugees and the
involuntary movement of populations, sharp economic decline, and foreign military intervention can
occur.
Metrics have been developed to describe the level of governance of society. The precise level of
government control required to avoid being considered a failed state varies considerably amongst
authorities.
