Learning Objectives/Outcomes:
Students will demonstrate an understanding of how 2D plans can be
translated into 3D forms.
Using found objects, students will create a 3-dimensional sculpture that is
based on an animal of their own personal choice.
Learning Activities:
Day 1:
o Nearpod activity that includes:
a Responding Session based on the use of found objects in the
work of artist Stephen Palmer.
Questions regarding found objects & what they may use to
create their sculptures.
A collaborative brainstorm board asking students to consider
what animal they will choose & why, as well as finding images
to use as inspiration for their 2D plans.
o Students will create a 2D plan for their 3D sculpture that includes
drawing their chosen animal, identifying its major body parts, and
translating this into a 3D found object that will be used to build that
part.
Day 2:
o Nearpod activity where students answer a series of questions about
the found objects they are using and how they will use them to create
their sculpture.
o Students will create their sculpture based on their 2D plan from Day
1.
Assessment:
In both Day 1 & 2, students are assessed based on all questions & activities
within each Nearpod activity.
2D sculpture plan that features a drawing of the animal & found objects
connected to each major body part.
Final sculpture of their chosen animal that has been created using a variety of
found objects.
Differentiation of Instruction:
Allowing for multiple ways of building and attaching objects.
Providing the option for students to answer questions verbally or through
written response.
Providing both step-by-step instructions through a series of images and
through written steps.
