We normally hear of the casinos and the entertainment spots whenever we hear the name Las Vegas,

Nevada. What people do not know is that there is actually another side of Las Vegas that they should be
visiting if they find themselves in the area. One of these places to visit is the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort
State Historic Park.

Cities pride themselves in their rich culture, art, and history that they have to offer. Las Vegas is no
different from these cities. This park is an evidence of the rich history that Las Vegas has and how it
contributed to the United States.

The Park derives its name from the Old Mormons who settled in the area at around 1855. It was in the
area where they built the Old Mormon Fort, which is the central figure of the park. This fort would then
be the starting point of what we now know as Las Vegas. The fort stands at about 14 feet high. While it
is popularly known as a fort, such is merely a nomenclature as the fort served no military purpose or
neither was it built for such purpose.

If you visit the Park, you will definitely learn a lot of things. There are guided tours which help educate
visitors on the humble beginnings of the Fort and how the Fort has become significant for the residents
of Las Vegas. In addition to that, there are also several events that visitors can participate. There’s a
Cooking Demonstration, or you can also get the chance to make your own dreamcatcher. The best thing
about these events is that they are inexpensive, so participating in one is not much of a hassle.

The Historic Park will definitely give you a glimpse of the early lives in Las Vegas. When you do drop by,
make sure to drop by their store and see if you can buy any souvenirs for your loved ones back at home.
