Coffee is a beverage drunk by many past generations of people. What most people do not

realize is that coffee is made from beans picked from trees. Coffee trees are grown either from

seeds or cuttings. These trees will begin to bear crops when they are about four years old.

Workers on coffee plantations has to pick the beans by hand. After the beans have been

gathered they are roasted at high temperatures. This process gives them their fragrance. The

best coffee is made from freshly ground beans. There are many different ways of preparing

coffee. Coffee can be served either with or without milk. It contains a chemical called caffeine, a

mild drug that makes people awake. When the ground coffee is placed into the boiled water,

the flavor and dark brown color of the coffee goes into the water. There are several different

ways that coffee can be prepared. When a coffee bean is roasted, it grows nearly two times

bigger and changes from green to yellow to brown. This way of making coffee has been used

for hundreds of years. Coffee that has been aged is often mixed or "blended" with other coffee

that is not aged.

Last summer our house was painted by me. The job took about two weeks. First, the exterior
was washed using warm water and a mild detergent. Then all the chinks and pores in the walls
were sealed with putty. After the putty had had a chance to dry, the exterior could be painted.
A latex paint was used because it is easy to apply and cleans up with water. A whole week was
needed to finish this part of the job. I was very careful to apply the paint evenly because I did
not want to have to apply two coats. A color was used that was very close to the original color.
Our house is a two-story house, which meant that a tall ladder was needed to do the second
story. The paint had to be balanced on the top rung of the ladder while I worked. When the job
was finished, a great deal of satisfaction was felt by me. I had to pat myself on the back. Even
my dad said that a good job was done.
