Usefulness of SAP Business One

The SAP B1 software solution integrates working business functions for

the whole company, including financial management, purchasing, sales,
distribution, customer service management (CRM), inventory management,
production, project management and field service. It is said to be essential for
many businesses as it allows every department to easily communicate with
each other. It is just a single application that eliminates the need for separate
point solutions and the complicated integration of several modules. SAP B1
application can quickly track and access all customer contacts, records, and
history to respond to customer needs faster and better than the competition. It
enables the user to respond quickly to changing business needs by keeping all
business information in one place for instant access and drill down.
Every future accountant must study and understand Accounting
Information Systems (AIS) because accountants may be a user of an AIS, a part
of the design and implementation of AIS, and/or an auditor of an AIS.
According to Approyo (2020) the implementation of accounting software in
universities aligns with what students are likely to experience in the profession.
Students actively seek activities particularly hands-on exercises of the subject
that will improve their job gaining potential (McGinnis & Magro, 2011).
Boulianne (2014) examined three groups of students who have
completed an accounting case by: (1) answering manually using the pencil and
paper approach, (2) using software, and (3) first manually and then using
software. The results showed that the best manner to acquire concrete
knowledge in the accounting cycle is by completing the cases using the two
methods. Students who used software in completing the case experienced
better acquisition of knowledge than those who did it manually. Therefore, the
effective utilization and integration of accounting software such as SAP
Business One in the accounting curriculum is useful to the students especially
because it is aligned with what the students are likely to experience in the
profession.
Studies have been conducted in the past observing the perception of
students about SAP B1. Blount et al., (2016) found that students are eager to
use SAP in developing their skills as a preparation for their career. Iriberri et
al., (2014) compared students' perceptions on SAP B1 before and after they
were trained to use SAP B1. The perception of the students on SAP B1’s
usefulness is high, majority of them believed that it is functional and valuable.
Adlaon (2014) focused on studying the significance of SAP B1 to the subject,
results showed that students have a positive perspective regarding the use of
SAP B1 to the subject, and that the confidence level of students in applying for
a SAP-enabled company is high.
