Traffic Jams - Bucharest

I chose the subject of traffic jams in Bucharest, because at this time is a big problem facing the
capital, is a topical issue. This affects both pedestrians and drivers. In the capital, the number of
inhabitants is growing, but so is the number of motor vehicles, public transportation barely
coping.

Although the number of vehicles is quite high, infrastructure is the same for years, that affects
the smooth flow in the city. Also, the small number of parking spaces is a big disadvantage in this
issue and, therefore, most drivers choose to park illegally, this further complicating an already
hellish traffic.

There are statistics showing that Bucharest residents spend on average 57 minutes a day stuck
in traffic. During the week, the traffic reaches its peak between 7-9 hours in the morning and
evening 16-19. Although most of major intersections in these intervals are conducted by the
police, another cause of difficult traffic is the lack of respect of traffic rules in the absence of the
police.

Being the capital, in Bucharest are often organized various events, most requiring the closure of
the main arteries of the city. Also, traffic is difficult and due to construction of many residential
areas surrounding the capital, which inevitably leads to more vehicles and increases the difficulty
of driving.

From my point of view, it should be adopted some solutions primarily by local authorities. For
example, it is necessary to modernize and expand the means of transportation, attention to the
traffic rules and signs of drivers and pedestrians, upgrading existing infrastructure and building
bridges and overpasses to ease congestion. Along with them, it would be healthy to encourage, in
parallel, citizens to using bikes.

So, the traffic situation in Bucharest affects inhabitants life enough, considering that we ranked
5th in the world and first in Europe as traffic. Thus, there are many solutions that can be adopted
to make it easier circulation, but it is very important to involve local authorities and residents to
achieve this.
