Question: Do you think that the formula of COVID 19 vaccine should be freely available?

if
yes, what would happen to the investment by the companies in developing it. Should there be
any role of the UN and governments around the world in making a mechanism to supply it and
also meet the profit needs of inventing companies?
Answer: The covid-19 vaccine, although not fully perfected yet, should be made freely available
to the general public because it does help to provide a boost in strength of a person’s immune
system, thereby helping patients fight the virus in a more effective manner, hence increase the
chance of survival. Therefore, the investment of companies who are developing the vaccine
should increase their investment for funding the mass production of the vaccine in order to
supply it in bulk quantities to hospitals and medical clinics across the globe, because in that way
the vaccine could be made abundantly available. In addition to this, funding is also required
behind research and development since the vaccine has not reached its full potential, so more
improvements are needed to be made through R&D to make the vaccine more effective in
destroying the virus.
Governments in different countries could take orders from all the different hospitals within the
boundary of their nations and pass on those orders to the vaccine manufacturers. Shipping costs
will be high, therefore, each country's government can send its own marine vessels to import the
vaccines hence the costs from the manufacturers side will go down.
Since that plan is to make the vaccine freely available, therefore it cannot be sold free of charge.
Therefore, the middle class and upper class of developed and developing nations should pay the
full price of the vaccines, and only the lower class will get the vaccine for free. The governments
of each country should pay on behalf of the citizens in the lower class of their country's society.
Countries that are underdeveloped could face difficulties in financing the importing of vaccines
for their whole country hence the UN can lend some financial support to the governments of
these nations. The UN can also help these underdeveloped countries set up clinics for better
distribution of the vaccines. In this way the government and the UN can help the manufacturing
companies to make a decent profit.
