ANSWERS FOR TEACHER REFERENCE

Answer these questions about changing water matter in your workbook.

1. List whether the below images show atoms in a liquid, solid or gas.

Gas Liquid Solid

2. What is the most common form that water comes in on the earth?
Liquid water
3. Can we see atoms and molecules with our eyes?
No, we can only see them with a microscope.
4. How many main kinds of matter are there?
There are 3 main types of matter – gas, liquid and solids.
5. Why is water so unique?
Water is unique because it is the only substance that naturally occurs as a gas,
liquid and solid on earth.
6. Give 3 examples of solid matter you can see around you.

7. How does matter most commonly change states?

Matter is most commonly changed due to a change in temperature.
8. What processes cause condensation to occur?
Condensation occurs when evaporated water vapour in the air cools down and
the gas molecules change into liquid molecules.

What is the process in the image below called? Explain your answer.
This image shows evaporation as we can see the water source being heated by
the sun which then causes the liquid molecules to heat and change to gas/water
vapour molecules. These molecules will disperse into the atmosphere.
10. What is another word for rain?
Precipitation.
11. What is the solid form of water?
Ice.
12. How do we know if something is a liquid even when it is thick?
If something flows, and will flow to fill a new space, it is a liquid. Even thick
substances such as oil and honey are liquids.
