PART B: PROJECT OVERVIEW STATEMENT

PROJECT NAME: ONLINE HANDICRAFT SITE

PROBLEM/ OPPORTUNITY

Company’s growth depends on its level of sales in relation to customer interaction. The
Handicraft Company had been experiencing lower sales due to lack of customer
interaction within their company. Actual visiting of customers into the stores hinders the
sales of the firms as many people prefer online shopping and thus, there is lower level of
sales in the firm resulting in lower revenues.

GOAL

Increase the level of sales for the Handicraft Company by providing an Online Handicraft
Site. This project should be implemented within 4 months.

OBJECTIVE

The objectives of this project are:

 To provide an online site to the Handicraft Company this is user-friendly.
 All initial planning and brainstorming will be completed with 10 days.
 Designing of site interface, development of prototypes and testing is to be done in
next 20 days.
 Develop and implement the site within next 35 days.
 Train the staff of the Handicraft Company to use the site within 20 days.
 Ensure that the site allows customers to view and select wide range of products,
make payments, and receive shipping confirmations and also allowing the staffs
to maintain their records.

SUCCESS CRITERIA

 Provide a user friendly online handicraft site to enable rise in their level of sales
by 50%.
 Customer interaction is to be increased by 40%.
 The company assures shipping to be done within the timeframe of 15 days.

the company.
 The project team will acquire the support of the Handicraft Company.
 Resources need to be allocated well to resolve conflicts.

PART C: DATA - TABLE 1

1. Activity on Arrow (AOA) Diagram

2. Distinct paths and its durations

Path Duration Length

A-B-D-H-K-M 2+7+3+4+4+2 22 days
A-B-D-F-I-L-M 2+7+3+6+3+3+2 26 days
A-C-E-H-K-M 2+5+4+4+4+2 21 days
A-C-F-I-L-M 2+5+6+3+3+2 21 days
A-C-G-J-L-M 2+5+5+5+3+2 22 days

3. Critical Path: A-B-D-F-I-L-M

4. Expected minimum time of completion: 26 days

5. Activity on Node (AON) Diagram

Gantt Chart

6. There will be no impact on this project if Activity C is 9 days as it does not fall in
the critical path. If Activity C takes 9 days to complete instead of taking 5 days,
then it would have a 4 days slack period which could be used to cover for activity
C in order to complete it.

S11157942 SWETA SHIWANJINI KARAN Page 6

7. This will delay the duration of the project which means the project duration will
increase from 26 days to 28 days, if activity H cannot start unless F has finished.

8. Both activity B and activity C starts together after the completion of activity A
thus, Bob can solve this conflict by the use of ‘resource leveling’. This means that
Bob can use the available resources of activity C to complete activity B first since
activity C does not fall in the critical path after which he may use the resources to
complete activity C. Hence, this will solve the conflict as this will not hinder the
project duration and its cost.

9. Advantages of diagramming methods: AOA, AON and Gantt chart

Activity on Arrow (AOA)

 Better suited to represent a task as the arrows show the passage of time.
 Is easier to schedule thus providing clear and compact network.

Activity on Node (AON)

 It does not have any dummy activities as the arrows only show
dependencies.
 It can accommodate various kinds of task relationships including:
- Start to start
- Start to finish
- Finish to start
- Finish to finish
- Lead and lag

Gantt chart
 It is easy to understand as it provides clarity of the dates.
 Efficient to use as it allows time management.
