Should euthanasia be legalized?

Did you know that Euthanasia comes from Greek which means good death? However,

only 9 out of 196 countries in the world have legalized euthanasia including Netherlands,

Belgium, Switzerland, and Japan (Papers Owl, 2019). It is otherwise known as mercy killing

where it is an intentional practice that must be done to relieve another pain or suffering.

Personally, if it is voluntary, I am okay with euthanasia being legalized. I have my reasons why I

am okay with it.

First, euthanasia can be a great help to save money, time, energy, and resources. We are

all aware that the amount of money available for health care in each country and the number of

equipment and staffs in each hospital are very small in numbers and limited. Don’t you think it is

not a waste of money and energy to continue helping those who have chosen to die because of an

incurable illness? Why not do it to save the lives of people suffering from curable diseases

instead? If this is the case then, those individuals will continue living their lives, and healthcare

funds and resources will be unaffected.

Second, for many people, the quality of life is more significant than the duration of life.

Patients who seek euthanasia are in excruciating agony that those who have never seen it cannot

comprehend. People believe it is best to live, but the patients see death to relieve their unbearable

suffering and find happiness. I assume that it is only a matter of time before such people

succumb to their illnesses and that forcing them to live longer lives is futile. I believe it is

preferable to end the lives of those who are in pain rather than prolonging their agony and

torment.
Lastly, patients own their bodies and can do whatever they want for them. The patient is

the one that decides to be dead and is none of other people's business. We must respect them

having their lives to rest peacefully and be free from agony anymore. Because in the end, life

isn’t about prolonging to live, it is about the moments and memories you cherished and shared

when you are still in your good state of health.
