Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced

Size: 87.5cm x 87.5 cm / 34.5″ x 34.5″ AFTER BLOCKING

Materials needed:

3.5 mm (E) size hook

1 Scheepjes Whirl and a matching whirlette or approximately 1640 yards/1500
meters of fingering weight yarn
Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Scissors
Stitch markers (optional)
NOTE: Blocking is essential to enhance the textured patternwork of your
blanket

Stitches Used and Abbreviations:

MR = magic ring

CH = chain

SK = skip

ST/STS= stitch/ stitches

SC = single crochet

FPSC = front post single crochet

HDC = half double crochet

BPHDC = back post half double crochet

FPHDC = front post half double crochet

HDC2tog = half double crochet 2 together

HDC3LO = half double crochet 3rd loop only

DC = double crochet

ExtFPDC = extended front post double crochet

3DCCL = 3 double crochet cluster

TR = treble crochet

Popcorn ST = popcorn stitch

*-* =repeat pattern between these symbols (This is only used for a full repeat, may
contain smaller repeats)

{ } =indicates how many stitches go into the same stitch or used to repeat a small set of
instructions between these brackets the number of times given

[ ] = used to repeat a medium lenght set of instructions between these brackets, the
number of times given

[ ] = used to repeat a longer set of instructions between these brackets, the number of
times given

Gauge: 5 half double crochet stitches and 3 rows = 1″ / 2.5cm

Additional notes:

 If a row/round starts with a Chain 1 or 2, this is not counted as a stitch, unless stated
otherwise.
Slip stitches do not count as stitches.
CH 3 always counts as double crochet.
US terms used throughout
At the end of every round, there’s going to be a note with the stitch count, so you can
keep track of your work easily and avoid any mistakes. It’s written in a different
color; the first line in bold is always the total stitch count for the round (starting
with round 18, this excludes corner stitches). Below that, I included a stitch count
per side (excluding corner stitches) and per corner too, in case you prefer it that
way.
When working on the corners, always remember that there might be a hidden
stitch hiding under the corner stitches which is the first stitch of the previous row
When you make a normal puff stitch, it creates 2 loops on its top. I will refer to these
loops as first loop and second loop. The first loop is always the one on the right and
the second one is on the left.
Notes are written in a different color in (brackets) to help you through the pattern.
You can start each round as I did in the pattern or you can use a standing stitch or
chains, it’s totally up to you!

Instructions

To Start: MR or CH 5, SLST into first CH to form a ring.

Round 1: CH 1, 8 NPuff ST in MR, join with a SLST to first loop of first NPuff ST

(8 NPuff STS)

Round 2: CH 1, 1 HDC in same ST (this is the first loop of the first NPuff ST), 1 HDC in
2nd loop of NPuff ST, 1 FPHDC around the same NPuff ST, *1 HDC in 1st loop of next
NPuff ST, 1 HDC in 2nd loop of the same NPuff ST, 1 FPHDC around the same NPuff ST*
repeat *to* around, join with a SLST to first HDC

(8 FPHDC, 16 HDC)

Round 3: CH 2 (does not count as a ST) 1 DC in same ST, CH 2, SK 1 ST (HDC), 1 DC in

next ST (FPHDC), *1 DC in next ST (HDC), CH 2, SK 1 ST (HDC), 1 DC in next ST
(FPHDC)* repeat *to* around, join with a SLST to first DC (NOT the CH 2!)

(16 DC, 8 CH 2 SP)

Round 4: SLST to CH 2 SP, CH 1, *1 NPuff ST, CH 1, 1 NPuff ST in CH 2 SP, 1 FPDC

around both of the posts of 2 DC STS from previous round* repeat *to* around, join with
a SLST to 1st loop of the first NPuff ST (note: when you do the last FPDC of the round,
you have to do it around the 2 DC STS and the CH 2, which is between
