RESEARCH

What did you learn from your research?
For the first week we searched the history of short film and compared it to
recent short film that has been released, then I learnt how character
development is done in a short film by watching a reward winning short film. I
learnt key aspects of codes and convention that I will be including in my short
film. I leant about the different acts in a romance film, also the key camera
angles of a romance film as well as lighting. I then learnt what people wanted
to see in my romance film. And also did a review on a film and learnt the main
elements they used and understood why they put it in there romance film.

How has the research for your medium All these aspects helped me to improve my ideas as it taught me a lot of things
helped you improve your ideas? I did not know before going into this project, as I leant the use of a two shot,
the difference of lighting and how it can impact the production

How has the research for your genre helped
you improve your ideas?
The research of the genre helped me as well the research I did in the short
films helped me recognise that in a romance film character development is
very important, the film waves also guided me onto why I should include
different music to change to mood of the audience compared on the emotion of
the character its following.

How has researching the conventions of your
chosen genre helped you understand what is
required from you in order to meet a
distinction grade?
Researching convention helped me as it told me the basics of what I should
include in a romance film so I can branch out my research and go more in-
depth it told me shot types to use, editing to include locations to use as well as
sound. At first I was confused on locations to add but it helped know that
using realistic but beautiful interesting location is very well needed as well as
important

How has including a variety of sources
(primary and secondary) helped with your
understanding of your medium / genre?
Secondary research helped me as it got me to understand different lighting to
use as well as locations to add in not only, but it told me why and when to use
them to conduct different moods. Primary research helped me to understand
what my age demographic wanted to see in the film as we wanted to have a
teenage demographic in the production, they also requested different elements
to add in that they thought would be a good idea.

What sources of information did you look at I looked at a film called Waves as it was an idea of what I was going for, this
that were different from your proposed helped me get an idea of to use indie music as well as give me a different
project? output on where I should put my locations and how I wanted the film to make
you feel from the look and aesthetic.

How will this be useful to your planning? This will be useful to the planning as it helps me get an idea on where I should
put the music to conduct the audience’s emotions and locations ideas to put in
to make the characters look adventures

How has the research for your content/topic The researched helped us to improve my ideas as it gave us an outside
helped you improve your ideas? perspective of what editing to use and where we should look for inspiration

How has the research into artists/producers This helped us produce my ideas as we investigated the Waves and how they
helped you improve your ideas? use these bright vibrant colours to give everything a rose tint feel really makes
you fall in love with the character relationship

What work do you need to complete outside For work I will need to complete a new review on a short film and look into a
of lessons to stay on track? director to give my self a better grade.
