Creep 

Primary Research - Video Analysis 

 
 
Location 
The Film creep was shot in Crestline, California in the US. In a three-bedroom cabin in the
woods, this was the primary filming location. The reason why the film was shot here is
because the woods and environment around it seemed quite distant and ghost like this was
to build suspense and make the viewer feel secluded from the rest of the world being in
that area. I never reason why creep was shot here is because it helped emphasise one of the
characters passion this character being, Joseph who is really passionate about nature in this
indie horror film. Having him living in the woods would help emphasise his true love for
nature. At 14:32 the location changes to a woods called Lake Gregory Regional Park, reason
why this part of the film was shot here is because of the beauty and the unique heart
shaped rock which was featured in the film as a point of beauty. At 2109 the location
changes do a diner restaurant in the local town it is shot there to ?? 
 
Props 
The key props they use throw out the performance are what I remember is an axe, a wolf
mask, knife, CDs and a baby wolf plushie. Those are the most rememberable props they had
throughout the film. Firstly, the axe the axe is seen at the beginning of the film within 3
minutes of the production. This is used as foreshadowing for later moments into the
production. During the walk the two characters go on they mention the axe again. With a
chilling quote “did you think I was going to kill you with the axe. Which again is more
foreshadowing on the axe prop. Another prop we see throw out the performance
is peachfuzz. The killers mask who he names peachfuzz we see it in a jump scare 12:15 with
continuing with a disturbing kid friendly dance. Off the bat we can see that this character
who owns the props is a “creep” as these props put together really pull out a red flag of him
being a deranged murderer, but the audience slightly brushes this off there Shoulder as his
sympathy cancer story and how he has a family. We ignore all sympathy with the character
as he tells us he raped his wife with the mask on and indigenised the main character while
blocking the door at 47:00 in the film. The CDs are sent to the character at different times
during the end of the film but There’s a time where a knife CD and baby wolf plushie is sent
at once. With the CD saying that killer thinks this character is like a baby wolf, who loves but
is not ready to kill. And should stab the wolf plushie to let out his inner wolf. This shows how
twisted the character of the killer is and how attached he is towards the main character. As
if he’s trying to prove the way he acts is normal. At right at the end of the film the killer
proves how loving the main character wants to go and asks to meet for one last time. With
the main character agreeing he is met with the killer in the wolf mask and an axe and inserts
the axe into the main characters head. 
 
Costume 
At 2:49 the cameraman is wearing casual clothes this tells us that he is attending a castle
event and not something that is formal this fits the genre of the film as the genre of the film
doesn’t entail formal wear, but it does entail casual wear to a certain degree. Joseph is
shown is wearing athletic wear at 4:03 signifying that he has just returned from a form of
exercise at this point in the film. This Athletic where would suit the production as he has
obviously been doing exercise somewhere in the woods perhaps which also exaggerates the
fact that he likes being in nature. 
 
Narrative 
The is story line that follows a main character who thinks he’s getting paid for an easy job of
filming someone. Despite, being met with an odd man who claims he has cancer and his
wife has a child that they won't see as he’s dying soon. His last wish is to be filmed so he can
show his yet unborn son. We soon learn that all he has been saying is a lie just to leer an
innocent man into the woods to try befriend him. Antagonize him. To then kill him to add to
his collection of kills he has. They did this to show a fear of Unknown. They did this with not
really any scary elements. Just a hand-held camera. But the element of surprise to the end is
carried on with us not knowing who he really is. As the story gets more twisted and
sickening it makes you feel as if it can't get worse. It does. To really create a fear factor, we
all experienced but in a way we all haven't. The hole time it is believed to be an innocent
time between two people celebrating once last time. Until at the end we learn it's all to get
a murderer kicks up by killing someone who he calls his best friend. 
 
Shot Types 
The type of filming technique that was used in this production throughout this production
was a technique called found footage. Found footage is a film subgenre in which all or a
substantial part of the work is represented as if we have discovered the film or video
recordings. For creep the whole film is shot on found footage. In the film creep the whole
film portrayed through one camera and had a mixture of real-time and off-camera
commentary. The uses of the found footage technique, adds realism to the cinematography
of the film the shaky camerawork as a naturalistic performance to the production. Found
footage is the only technique camera technique used in the entire production this is to keep
the realism and tension consistent throughout the production.
