Proposal – music video

Concept

my music video idea will have the following story of a daughter and father relationship. It will follow
the story of the daughter looking back at memories of the times they had together she sees the
photos they had together in a box of her old belongings she had as a child, the house she’s in looks
empty and looks likes she is moving house. It goes into the photos as a flash back with the good
times they had together such as birthdays and bike rides. The first flash back is the dad looking over
the edge and looks to the right of him and sees his daughter which they give each other a hug.
During all these flash backs It shows the daughter being really upset by looking back at these
memories. It then shows in the background of these flash backs, which is the dad going through a
rough time by showing a divorce, experiencing death from a love one, losing his job and going throw
a dark road to then the end of it being him ending his own life by the same edge as the first flash
back but he looks to the side of him and the daughter was never there. I will also be showing the
grief stage to show the aftereffects on someone losing their life and then the last part which is
acceptance where she takes up a hobby that they used to do.

Why am I producing this production?

I choose to do a music video as it something I have never done, I have made edits of clips with music
over the top of it before in the past and remember it being very fun and enjoyable, so would be a
something I would like to go back but have a twist this time by having a drama story behind it with
having characters and emotions instead of an edit full of B roll. So, with my experience with making
edits with music over the top I also have very strong passion to music itself. Listening to music and
picturing the visuals to it is defiantly a creative skill I have, now I want to see if I can make those
visuals come to life within a story but in addition, make it enjoyable for my TA. I haven’t learnt any
skills on how to edit a music video in the past before choosing this option especially haven’t had any
experience to use the skills of parallel editing which is what we must include into are production to
add to the challenge, but I thought I could have the most creative and enjoyment into making a
music video as those are two things I love, and it’s combined into one. I also did this for the same
reason as my other production but to see if I can work alone, independently without any assistant on
the creative to outcome side and will be great to see what I can accomplish alone with all the skills
and knowledge I have. Will be also putting this film into the Henley collage film festival to see if it
can compete against other passionate film makers like my self so from choosing a stop motion or a
music video, I think I can think more freely and creatively with making a music video other than a
stop motion. And will also be fun to learn new skills on ways to sync footage with music well and to
make it fit will be a good skill to learn if I ever want to add music into any of my future productions.

Deadline

My final deadline for everything to be finished for both production including this production will be
the 9th of December. But I will push myself on making my short film completed all the way throw to
the 20th of November, so I have time to change anything on the production or have more time into
my music video or my ending evaluation. As with previous productions, I have learnt having more
time before the final deadline is important for improvement.

Target Audience is
My target audience is still 40-60-year-olds who I don’t tend to make any productions for but will be a
good challenge for myself to make a music video that they would be interested in by and enjoy as
watchable content. Boarding my horizons on TA age would be a good skill to learn as I usually only
stick with my TA when making a production as it is the easiest option but finding out what my TA like
and then including it in my production is the challenge, I am willing to except. I don’t have a pacific
other than the age. It is mainly built on 40-60-year-olds who have children which again is like my
previous production as I wanted to keep it the same, so I don’t lose track and keep it a lot simpler. It
is built for 40–60-year-olds the same reason as my short film, so they can have more empathy and
emotion for my character as he is a child who has a father and mother and loses both and gets
abandon and left by herself to become the stronger character. most 40-60-year-olds with children
would feel as if they would need for the child to have protection so would have a lot of empathy for
the child, it will also have a suicide awareness for 40–60-year-olds for men as it is the 9th biggest
killer.

What they want to see

What I found out what they like to see are drama productions which is the only category my music
video fits into which is a tragedy drama as there won’t be any horror, action or anything with a
unrelatable story. As most 50–60-year-olds would like to see a real original story and if it were a real
story, they would like to see something realistic at best, which is perfect as my story doesn’t go over
the top with any fantasy elements or anything over the top to say. It just shows a realistic British
background that most 40–60-year-olds Brits would know as a normal lifestyle but have a grittier and
more emotional story line to make an awareness out to something very serious.

What are you creating based from that research?

From what I am going off from is having a more realistic atmosphere to my production for example
like a cold realistic drama you would see on ITV or BBC. As these Brit dramas are what mostly 40–60-
year-olds enjoy watching in their spare time they show a realistic depiction of a story that would
happen in England and has dark tails to the story, I will be doing this idea over a music video to a
song that most British people like. I chose massive attack as 10 out of 12 40–60-year-olds like
massive attack.

Where the production will be aired

From my research on my TA, I will be showing my short film production on YouTube as it’s the only
video social media platform they use the most to consume video content, and it is also the platform I
am very familiar with so will be easy to upload my productions too. Also, I think it will be good idea
to get used to the Facebook platform and promote my production on there and Air both my
production on there as my TA also mostly use Facebook to connect their social life to, I will not be
using TIK TOK or Instagram like last time as my TA do not use these platforms as much so will be
pointless to upload or market my production on these platforms.
