Abandon Drill

1300-1330LT

1300 Abandon ship alarm was sounded and Master announced abandon ship drill over the PA system.
Crew gathered on the Muster Station in satisfactory time, head count and preparation for the duties
described in muster list was performed. PPE and LSE donned by the crew was checked and found ok.
EPIRB, SART and GMDSS radios were brought from the Bridge as well as additional blankets, food
and water rations to simulate real abandon ship situation.
1304 All crew mustered was reported to the Bridge. Free Fall Lifeboat was secured before entering
with the both hooks from FFLB winch. Crew entered the boat and buckled up in their designated seat.
It was explained how to switch batteries on, starting of engine, lifeboat lights, inventory, bilge pump,
air supply, sprinkler system, lifeboat release systems. It was stressed that when launching FFLB, no
helmets and lifejackets should be worn to avoid any injury. RA was done as per RI-110.
1306 According to abandon ship scenario simulation of sending distress messages using GMDSS
equipment was done on the Bridge by the Captain and appointed GMDSS officer (2nd Officer).
Simulation included preparing distress messages on VHF, MF/HF and Inmarsat-C consoles and
proper procedures for transmitting distress messages by radiotelephony. EPIRB and SART were
tested as part of this GMDSS scenario.
1313 After FFLB boarding participants. Correct donning and use of lifejackets, including inflatable
lifejackets was demonstrated. Use of all LSA equipment was explained as part of the drill (EPIRB,
SART, portable GMDSS VHF Radio, line throwing apparatus, lifebuoys and Pyrotechnics).
Emergency lighting and watertight doors checked and found in order.

1325 Debriefing has been carried out and areas of improvement highlighted but in general drill
performance was at high level.

1330 Drill closed
