Michael and Thomas:

Problems in the park

Written by Caspar Hayes

Deanfield Ave., Henley-on-Thames RG9 1UH

EXT – Park – Day
We see two men at a park, they’re sat up and look ready for
business. The music is exciting and loud as we cut away to
their chief's office, his narration playing over the scene.

INT – Office – Day

We open in the office of the police chief; we see two men
sitting side by side.

CHIEF
Listen you two. I trust you both with this job. No muck ups.
These deal networks have been traced to one place. This Park.

He slides over a photo of the local park. Two look over to it

in curiosity, they act like it’s their first time being given
a job like this, which it is.

CHIEF
This deal, over £250,000 in drugs. We stop this, this drug
empire staggers. You will be stationed at the park all day
until the deal occurs, on hand you’ll have a microphone,
binoculars and a camera. I trust you two, officers Michael and
Thomas.

EXT – Park – Day

We cut back to them in the park sat the bench. Observing the
criminal sat across from them.

THOMAS
Can I have 5 quid?

MICHAEL
What?
Cut to titles.
We cut back to Michael sat on the bench, keeping watch like a
hawk at the nearby criminal, sat across the park at a bench,
headphones plugged in.

THOMAS
Aye, wanker.

Thomas sits down with a can drink and a bag of crisps, Michael
looks over displeased.

MICHAEL
Hey! You didn’t even get me anything!

THOMAS
Well, you gave me the money, so I got myself some breakfast.

MICHAEL
I said you should get me crisps too!

THOMAS
Oh, oops. (sarcastic)

MICHAEL
You dickhead!

THOMAS
Listen, you gave me the money mate, it’s your loss.

MICHAEL
MY loss?
THOMAS
What did you not go to school mate? You should know better.

MICHAEL
You’re a grown man for god’s sake, grow up. (whiny)

Thomas takes a swig of his drink with a smug expression.

MICHAEL
At least share some of the crisps with me.

THOMAS
Nah.

Michael snatches them and Thomas protests.

THOMAS
Oi!

Thomas gives a disgusted expressions and sips his drink. The

two sit in silence for a moment.

THOMAS
UGH. When is this fucking deal going down?!

Michael keeps his watch on the young criminal, sitting on the

other side of the park, not responding to Thomas’ whining.

THOMAS
Mate, he hasn’t done anything for the last 2 hours.

MICHAEL
You need to take this job more seriously.

THOMAS
I am taking it seriously, alright? I’m just borrreddd.

MICHAEL
Our job is to wait.

THOMAS
Ugh, these guys are too good at their job, they’re killing me
already.

Thomas groans and slouches back in his seat. He looks over at

Michael again with a judgemental look. Time ticks forward as
Michael’s watch ticks, one hour has passed. Thomas is tapping
his fingers on the bench arm, looking half asleep.

THOMAS
Anything?

MICHAEL
You would know if you were awake.

THOMAS
Well excuse me but I don’t get all excited over a full day in
the park, in the same spot.

He sits up and looks at the laptop with the camera display up.
THOMAS
Mate he’s not moved!

MICHAEL
Well, yes, because he’s waiting for someone, and we are
waiting for this same person. (condescending)

THOMAS
Nah, nah, nah, nah. I can’t do this.

MICHAEL
Oh, for god's sake. Fine, hold on.

Michael gets up and walks off, 10 minutes pass. Michael comes

back with a bag of small board games.

MICHAEL
Right, you want to pass the time? Battleships.

THOMAS
Ugh, board games?

MICHAEL
Yes, or would you like to go back to doing nothing?

THOMAS
Alright, hand over the game. (whiny)

Time ticks forward, 30 minutes has passed, the two look bored
and zoned out, their voices monotone and grey.

MICHAEL
B9. (monotone)

THOMAS
(Slight pause) Miss... C4.
MICHAEL
(Slight pause) Miss... A5.

THOMAS
(Slight pause) You sunk my battleship.

Michael sniffs his nose and Thomas sighs. Time ticks forward
as we see an hour pass again, Michael’s watch ticking. We see
Michael’s computer with a visual on the criminal, keeps a
watchful eye on him.
MICHAEL
Oh shit.

THOMAS
Hm?

MICHAEL
Something’s found the camera.

THOMAS
What?

MICHAEL
No, no, no, no. Did someone spot it?

THOMAS
How could someone find it?

We cut to see that the camera is being picked up and played

around with by a few teenagers.
MICHAEL
Looks like some kids found it.

THOMAS
Hm.

MICHAEL
I’m gonna have to stop them.

THOMAS
What? Nah, nah don’t risk it.

MICHAEL
Well, we can’t let the operations be jeopardised! Plus, I
don’t want to pay for the camera.

Michael looks over nervously and sighs deeply. Thomas

surprisingly looks concerned for him and he gives into his
pity.

THOMAS
Alright, I’ll go deal with it. It’ll be over sooner anyhow.

He walks over with a confident stride.

THOMAS
Oi mates! (confident)

Teenager No. 1
Yeah bruv?

Teenager No. 2
Yeah “mate”?

Thomas chuckles slightly.

THOMAS
Ha ha, you see that right there is my camera.

Teenager No. 1
Oh, is it? (coy)

The others laugh with him, and Thomas laughs along trying to
play cool, he then takes out his badge.

THOMAS
This is a police job, boys, come on, hand it over.

Teenager No. 1
Oh, come on mate, it’s all in good fun.

THOMAS
Come on, hand it over.

He tries grabbing it.

THOMAS
Come on.

Tries grappling for it, him and the teenager struggle around.

Teenager No.2
Oi! Get off him you nonce!
Thomas looks over to see the criminal isn’t disturbed,
headphones still in, looking worried.

Teenager No.1
Fuck off!

THOMAS
Give it here!

The teenagers run off and Thomas gives chase. We then cut back
to the bench, Thomas out of breath.

MICHAEL
Brilliant. (sarcastic)

THOMAS
Fuck, now what?

MICHAEL
Well, we’re gonna have to move closer.

We see them walk over behind the criminal to a nearby part of

the park in the bushes.

MICHAEL
Right, we should be okay here.

Thomas sighs and rubs his eyes. Time ticks forward again
another hour passes.

THOMAS
I’m going for a piss.
MICHAEL
Alright but don’t take too long.

Thomas walks off to the nearby toilets, we stay with Michael

as he lifts the binoculars to see the criminal sat on the
bench. We then see someone approach him, it’s the dealer,
holding a package for the man.

MICHAEL
Oh shit!

Michael stands up and pulls out his gun with his badge.

MICHAEL
Hands up!

The criminal stands there with the bag and takes off in the
direction of the toilets by the nearby train station. Michael
gives chase and fires his gun as the criminal gets closer to
the station. Michael gives chase and gives up a small fist
fight, meanwhile we cut to Thomas in the toilet, classical
music playing peacefully over his piss. We cut back to the two
in the middle of their fight, Michael pins the criminal
against the toilets outside walls and gives up a fight. Thomas
is seen washing his hands inside peacefully.

MICHAEL
Goddammit! Thoma-

We see Michael as he was about to get kicked in the face and

Thomas drying his hands. He then steps outside to leave.
Michael is on the ground beaten down. The criminal stands over
him with a menacing look.

CRIMINAL
See you, coppa.

Thomas opens the toilet door and hits the criminal aside.
Thomas looks down at Michael with a look of confusion.

THOMAS
What the hell happened to you?

Michael sighs and looks at Thomas unamused.

INT – Police chief’s office – day

We see the two officers sat across the table from the police
chief.

CHIEF
Well, that, was a total mess. But you did at least obtain the
drugs. You boys may have lost me a camera.

THOMAS (quietly)
Was only a £20 dash camera...

CHIEF
But you boys worked together to stop this.

The two look somewhat proud of themselves, having smiles of

pride.

CHIEF
How about another job together?

MICHAEL
Oh... God no!

THOMAS
Yeah, I hated this more than any job previously.

MICHAEL
This idiot was terrible.

THOMAS
And this guy was the most uptight man I’ve ever met!

The two then get up and storm out of the room arguing with
each other on who was worse during the stake-out.

THE END.
