Final FRQ

For thousands of years there were a great many cultures of humans on Earth, but one thing they
all had in common is that every single one of them had their very own form of art! Every culture
or civilization on Earth has art and their own unique kind for example, the United States unique
auditory art is Jazz which originated in New Orleans, and for visual art, Abstract Expressionism
which developed in New York. But this was all a whole century ago and a lot has changed since
then. In recent decades art education is becoming less appreciated and in some public schools,
little to no funding is being put into this education! If this continues, future generations of the
world will lose knowledge of the art and its many beautiful forms. Art education is just as
important as math or science education and should be funded as so. Here is my explanation of
why the Arts should still be properly funded and taught to children across the world!

Art has evolved a lot in the past 50 years. The 70s were a time when many groups fought for
equality, the Vietnam war was being protested, and there was many scandals and depleting faith
in the dignity of the United States government. Rock music was introduced in western music at
this time. In the 80s, graffiti art exploded in popularity and in an article of the famous Andy
Warhol, ANDY WARHOL, POP ARTIST, DIES, the author states that, “In the 1980's, after a
relatively quiet period in his career, Mr. Warhol burst back onto the contemporary art scene as a
mentor and friend to young artists” (McGill Paragraph 8). Mr. Warhol then continued to work on
paintings he used to shun before the 80s. The 90s introduced a growing movement of visual art
known as activist art! This type of art supported groups like the Black community, and the
LGBTQ. Besides activist art, Hip Hop became really popular to the point where it was one of the
bestselling music genres of this decade. The 2000s are a time where the United states economy
was rapidly growing, so the art community did their part and opened a growing number of art
fairs and sold tickets to boost the American economy. This was also a time when Pop music
became popular, especially amongst the new generation. This is how art has evolved in the past
50 years!

Knowing the evolution of art in our culture and how it affected our countrys growth is important
in helping us understand why it still matters in society today. Children all across the world
should be taught the reason why art is so crucial in our civiliazation. Without art , color would
have no meaning, for some people it is an escape from the confines of our reality. The world
would be without joy, but instead dull. This world isnt a fantasy, This will be the future of our
world if we don’t support the teaching of the arts. Art doesn’t just bring joy and enternainment, it
also brings remembrance and knowing the what the world felt like before! For example, in a
report of art galleries in the 2000s, Depending on the Culture of Strangers, the author states that,
“PACKAGING art by the decade isn’t realistic; art doesn’t come in squared-off units. But we
seem to need handles on history, so that’s what we do.” (Cotter Paragraph 1). Art has played a
role in every major event in history, because if you dig deep enough, art is there.

Art Education to me is one of the most important teachings in the world, because it addresses
many things, pleasure, escape, romance, and remembering the very existence of our past! I
personally believe that art should be taught in a system of specialized schooling. One school may
specialize or put more funding into technology and development while another school will puts
its resources towards arts education! This will then help state governments equally distribute
money for each school depending on its specialty. This system would also address the fact that
not everyone is going to be an artist when the grow up. While I do believe art education should
be taught everywhere around the world, I don’t believe that it’s the only important thing to learn.
If art education was forced upon every child on a high level, this could take away from what they
really want to do in life. If I had the decision on how art education should be handled, this is how
I would do it. Every student should be taught first the evolution of art, the many different forms
of art that are commonly used now, and finally, why its important to learn and use in modern
society today!

How art will evolve in the future is not an easy question, and if it had an answer, it wouldn’t be
very straight forward. Art is not a math problem that you can solve using some formula because
art isnt an algorithm, it’s a culmination of many forms of human expression that can lead to
infinite paths. One day we could be listening to pop, then the next day we have a completely
different genre. Or one year graffiti art is booming and on every side of every building. Then a
year later, activist art is the new thing every artist out there is making! But if I had to make a

guess, what art will look like a decade later might be about the time were living in right now, It
will explain the good and bad. But most importantly what everyone felt during these years, and
that’s what makes art!
