INDONESIAN CUISINES

Indonesia has a lot of cuisine variant. It is diverse, in part because Indonesia is composed
of approximately 6000 populated islands of the total 17.580 in the world’s largest archipelago,
with more than 300 ethnic groups calling Indonesia home. Indonesian cuisine is so delicious
because Indonesian cuisine is based on fresh spices and herbs. When we look at the list of
Indonesian cuisine and notice the fresh herbs and multitude of spices used in Indonesian
cooking, it truly is a huge contributing factor as to why Indonesian cuisine is so flavorful and
exciting to eat. Here are 4 lists of Indonesian cuisines that you have to try it if you are in
Indonesia because this taste is so good.

1. Bakso

The origin of this cuisine is Indonesian Chinese. The type of this cuisine is noodle dish. Bakso is
beef meatballs and usually served in bowl of beef broth. Bakso usually served with yellow
noodles, bihun, vegetables, tofu, egg (wrapped within Bakso, Chinese green cabbage, bean
sprout, sprinkled with fried shallots and celery).

2. Rendang

Rendang is a really popular dish in Indonesia. Rendang is actually a dry beef stew with dry
curry. This cuisine is originated from Minangkabau in West Sumatera. It is a reason of this food
called Rendang Padang or Redang Minangkabau. Basically, Rendang is meat, normally beef but
sometimes liver, chicken, goat, etc. Rendang cooked in coconut milk and spices until dry
resulting in an intense concoction of taste and texture. Rendang is one of the best foods in the
world, especially in Indonesia, you should try it!

3. Pempek

This cuisine is from Palembang, Indonesia. Pempek is fish-based and the flour will make
Pempek has a form that is quite interesting. Usually, Pempek is mixed with a diluted sauce
mixed between sugar and vinegar sauce. Pempek will be more delicious if we consume it in
warm condition. The taste of fish is very tasty so you should try it. Actually, Pempek already
sold in many cities of Indonesia. So you can find this cuisine easily.

4. Soto

Soto is basically an Indonesian traditional soup mainly served in savory chicken broth seasoned
with turmeric. Hence, the color yellow. It then added with shredded chicken, eggs, rice
vermicelli, and crispy fried shallots. There are so many variants of soto in Indonesia. It depends
on which region it comes from. They have Soto Kudus in Central Java, Soto Betawi in Jakarta,
Coto Makassar in Sulawesi, and a lot more.
