Literature Review:
Chassis structure requires comprehensive engineering analysis prior to be manufactured.
Static and dynamic investigation has to be conducted to determine chassis strength rigidity.
A dynamic requirement is a modal analysis which is investigating the natural frequency of
structure and determining the vibration modes. By applying this investigation, the chassis
structure could be re-designed and optimized depends on the analysis result. It is necessary
to determine the dynamical properties (e.g., natural frequencies, mode of shapes and
damping factor) [2]. Variations of natural frequencies at the same mode caused by changes
of multiple design variables. Natural frequency investigation is important in the design of a
dynamic loading system condition. The modal analysis study results the specified natural
frequency that must be avoided by the engineer in designing a typical dynamic system due
to resonance structural loading.
M. Ibrahim, et.al. had conducted a study on the effect of frame flexibility on the ride vibration
of trucks. The aim of the study was to analyze the vehicle dynamic responses to external
factors. The spectral analysis technique was used in the problem study. Other than that, the
driver acceleration response has been weighted according to the ISO ride comfort
techniques. From the author point of view, the excessive levels of vibration in commercial
vehicles were due to excitation from the road irregularities which led to ride discomfort, ride
safety problems, road holding problems and to cargo damage or destruction. Also, it has
been found that the frame structure vibrations due to flexibility have a similar deleterious
effect on the vehicle dynamic behavior.[1]. Dr. Mohammed A.Elhaddad and Abdelrahman M.
M. Youssef is made Finite element model for space frame of a single seated race vehicle,
the model was developed to evaluate the torsional stiffness of the frame. Also, the paper
shows a design of a test rig to measure the torsional stiffness of the space frame. The
Measured data was used for the model validation. The deflection and the twist angle of the
frame was measured by the test rig to validate the result obtain from FEA. [4]
The automotive industry today is confronted with perhaps some of the most significant
technical challenges in its history. In most regions of the world, regulations and legislation
are being enacted to enforce higher fuel economy and lower tailpipe emissions. In all cases
the trend is upward and in some regions the impending regulations are forcing a
substantially greater emphasis on improving fuel economy. These challenges, along with
quickly changing customer preferences and the ever-increasing market demand for better
vehicle performance and reliability, require automotive companies to rethink past
approaches and to find better ways to design better vehicles at lower costs in shorter time.
Simulation provides a strong opportunity and means to bring about some of the necessary
cost efficiencies, while at the same time providing the platform to drive innovative product
development. [3]
