Section A : General Comments
Comments
High temperature working
It is suggested that, for temperatures above 350C, the following guidelines are adopted as good
working practice:
(i) Store unmixed materials in a cool (preferably temperature controlled) environment, avoiding
exposure to direct sunlight.
(ii) Keep equipment cool, arranging shade protection if necessary. It is especially important to
keep cool those surfaces of the equipment which will come into direct contact with the material
itself.
(iii) Try to avoid application during the hottest times of the day, arrange temporary shading as
necessary.
(iv) Make sufficient material, plant and labour available to ensure that application is a continuous
process.
Equipment
It is suggested that the following list of equipment is adopted as a minimum requirement.
Protective clothing : Protective overalls
: Good quality gloves, goggles and face mask
: Finishing trowel
Fosroc operates a policy to encourage the use, where possible, of approved or licensed applicators.
This ensures that repairs are completed satisfactorily so that the long term performance of the
materials is assured. For contractors who wish to apply the materials themselves Fosroc is also
able to offer technical assistance and training, either on-site or at its Training Centre in Dubai

constructive solutions
1.1 Clean the surface free of oil, laitence, grease, wax, dirt or any other foreign matter that could
effect the adhesion.
1.2 Use high-pressure water jet or grit blasting to clean concrete surfaces.
1.3 Repair all spalled surfaces or those containing blowholes or cracks. Nitocote CM210 can
repair those surfaces with cracks and other defects up to a maximum depth of 10mm.
Contact Fosroc Office for large-scale repairs.
1.4 Dampen the substrate surface with water keeping in mind that highly porous substrates will
require more dampening than normal dense substrates.
1.6 Running water should be stopped using Renderoc Plug. Contact the local Fosroc office for
suitable water stopping materials.
2.0 Mixing
2.1 Pour the CM 210 liquid polymer component into a mixing drum of 20 litres capacity.
2.2 Add the CM 210 powder component into the drum containing the liquid component while
continuously mixing with forced action helical mixing paddle attached to a slow speed drill.
3.0 Application
Nitocote CM 210 is a two coat applied, elastomeric cementitious coating which should not be
used on external surfaces where aesthetic appearance is required.
3.1.1. Apply the mixed material using a soft bristled brush or roller or trowel.
3.1.2 The first coat should be well brushed into the substrate and be applied at a w.f.t. of 1mm.
3.1.3 Finish the application in one direction to give a neat appearance. Dampen the surface in case
the brush begins to drag during application.
3.1.4 The first coat should be allowed to cure for a period of 3 hours @ 35°C and longer at lower
temperatures, prior to proceeding with the application of the second coat.
3.1.5 The second coat also should be applied like the first coat at a w.f.t of 1mm, in one direction
but does not require dampening of the surface.
constructive solutions
3.1.6 Use a finishing trowel for best results, in the case where a roller is used to apply the
material.
3.2.1 Contact the Fosroc office for details on selection of spraying machines and nozzles.
3.2.2 All preparatory works, application thickness, curing time etc. are the same as for the brush
application.
4.0 Cleaning
4.1 Clean all the tools and equipment with clean water, immediately after use.
4.2 In case of material hardening, use Fosroc Solvent 102 and clean mechanically.
This method statement is offered by Fosroc as a ‘standard proposal’ for the application of Nitocote
CM210. It remains the responsibility of the Engineer to determine the correct method for any given
application.
Where alternative methods are to be used, these must be submitted to Fosroc for approval, in
writing, prior to commencement of any work. Fosroc will not accept responsibility or liability for
variations to the above method statement under any other condition.

exposed coated surface towards the flame source.
The test specimen was sampled by Mr. Suresh Kumar of TBWIC on 28 May 2017 and was submitted by the
Sponsor for testing as part of product certification process.
6. METHOD OF TEST
6.1. Placing of test specimen
The test specimen consisted of three (3) sections of 2mm DFT Fosroc Nitocote CM210 applied over
calcium silicate board. The dimension per panel was 2440 x 610mm (l x w) and was butt jointed end-to-
end. The total dimensions of the specimen were 7320 x 610mm (l x w).
Several sections of cement board butt jointed end-to-end with overall dimensions of 7350 x 600mm (l
x w), were placed at the back of the sample to protect the furnace lid assembly.
6.2. Test Method
The specimen was installed horizontally in the Steiner Tunnel and supported by the ledges. The exposed
coated surface of the specimen (fire side) was exposed to a flaming exposure during the 10 minute test
duration.

9. CLASSIFICATIONS
The following information is designed to help put these test results into context. Flame Spread Index and
Smoke Developed Index results from an ASTM E84 test are often used by regulatory agencies to approve
materials for various applications. For example, the International Building Code 2015, Section 803.1.1
requires that:
Interior wall and ceiling finish materials shall be classified in accordance with ASTM E84 or UL 723-10th Ed.
2008. Such interior finish materials shall be grouped in the following classes in accordance with their flame
spread and smoke-developed indexes.
Note that the above example is the IBC requirement for interior wall and ceiling finishes only; your
application may be different.

The test specimen was submitted by the client and TBWIC has not been involved in the selection and
configuration of the specimen.

6. METHOD OF TEST
6.1. Placing of test specimen
The test specimen consisted of 3 sections of Nitocote CM210 applied on calcium silicate boards. The
total dimensions of the specimen were 7320 x 610mm (l x w).
Several sections of cement board butt jointed end-to-end with overall dimensions of 7350 x 600 mm (l
x w), were placed at the back of the sample to protect the furnace lid assembly.
6.2.Test Method
The specimen was installed horizontally in the Steiner Tunnel and supported by the ledges. The
Nitocote surface of the specimen (fire side) was exposed to a flaming exposure during the 10 minute
test duration.
Flame spread and density of the smoke are measured and recorded while the results are computed
against the standard calibration materials (cement board and red oak flooring).
6.3.Conditioning
After delivery on 4-Feb-16, the specimen was stored in room temperature for 26 days prior to the test
at 20.2 to 25.8°C and 45 to 55% relative humidity.

Project Task
The Saudi government has embarked on a major project
that seeks to expand the area of the Haram Mosque in
Makkah to accommodate millions more pilgrims. This
project has been in works for the past few years and the
design of the new mosque is a few steps closer to being
finalized. The new design of the mosque allows the
Makkah Mosque to hold more than 3 million Muslim
worshipers at a time.
Constructive Solutions
Fosroc products with various technologies have
provided excellent solutions for many civil engineering
aspects throughout the project stages. Featuring the
waterproofing system, Fosroc has proposed a
comprehensive membrane system comprised of
Nitocote CM210 as base coat and Nitoproof 600 as
final coat.
Value to Client
The waterproofing solution provided by Fosroc was the
appropriate option for the client to meet the technical
requirements and project specifications. Along with that,
the continuous technical and engineering support along
with the site supervision were of great value to
guarantee proper application of the said system.

THE PROJECT
Al-Turki Business Park is one of the most prestigious office complexes in Dhahran city. It
incorporates a 14-storey ultra-modern “Tower” and a block of ten buildings, “The Lofts”.

The 2-level basement of the Park consists of a 16,000m car parking and three concrete
tanks which will feed the complex with potable water. One of the major concerns in
these two contiguous structures, the parking and the tanks, is to provide the floor of the
first with traffic-resistant topping and to protect its walls from vehicles exhaust gases,
and to ensure effective watertight containment for the second.
