Section A : General Comments

Comments
High temperature working

It is suggested that, for temperatures above 350C, the following guidelines are adopted as good
working practice:

(i) Store unmixed materials in a cool (preferably temperature controlled) environment, avoiding
exposure to direct sunlight.
(ii) Keep equipment cool, arranging shade protection if necessary. It is especially important to
keep cool those surfaces of the equipment which will come into direct contact with the material
itself.
(iii) Try to avoid application during the hottest times of the day, arrange temporary shading as
necessary.
(iv) Make sufficient material, plant and labour available to ensure that application is a continuous
process.
Equipment
It is suggested that the following list of equipment is adopted as a minimum requirement.
Protective clothing : Protective overalls
: Good quality gloves, goggles and face mask

Preparation equipment : Stiff wire brush

: Proprietary blasting equipment

Mixing equipment : 1 KW, slow speed heavy-duty drill, 400 - 500 rpm

: Forced action helical mixing paddle

Application equipment : Soft bristled brush, Roller or Hand trowel

Section B : Application Method

1.0 Surface Preparation

1.1 Clean the surface free of oil, laitence, grease, wax, dirt or any other foreign matter that could
effect the adhesion.

1.2 Use high-pressure water jet or grit blasting to clean concrete surfaces.

1.3 Repair all spalled surfaces or those containing blowholes or cracks. Nitocote CM210 can
repair those surfaces with cracks and other defects up to a maximum depth of 10mm.
Contact Fosroc Office for large-scale repairs.

1.4 Dampen the substrate surface with water keeping in mind that highly porous substrates will
require more dampening than normal dense substrates.

1.5 Remove all condensation with a sponge prior to application.

1.6 Running water should be stopped using Renderoc Plug. Contact the local Fosroc office for
suitable water stopping materials.

2.0 Mixing

2.1 Pour the CM 210 liquid polymer component into a mixing drum of 20 litres capacity.

2.2 Add the CM 210 powder component into the drum containing the liquid component while
continuously mixing with forced action helical mixing paddle attached to a slow speed drill.

2.3 Continue mixing for 3 - 5 minutes or until a lump-free slurry is obtained.

3.0 Application

Nitocote CM 210 is a two coat applied, elastomeric cementitious coating which should not be
used on external surfaces where aesthetic appearance is required.

3.1 Brush / Roller / Trowel application

3.1.1. Apply the mixed material using a soft bristled brush or roller or trowel.

3.1.2 The first coat should be well brushed into the substrate and be applied at a w.f.t. of 1mm.

3.1.3 Finish the application in one direction to give a neat appearance. Dampen the surface in case
the brush begins to drag during application.

3.1.4 The first coat should be allowed to cure for a period of 3 hours @ 35°C and longer at lower
temperatures, prior to proceeding with the application of the second coat.

3.1.5 The second coat also should be applied like the first coat at a w.f.t of 1mm, in one direction
but does not require dampening of the surface.

constructive solutions

3.1.6 Use a finishing trowel for best results, in the case where a roller is used to apply the
material.

3.2 Spray Application

3.2.1 Contact the Fosroc office for details on selection of spraying machines and nozzles.

3.2.2 All preparatory works, application thickness, curing time etc. are the same as for the brush
application.

4.0 Cleaning

4.1 Clean all the tools and equipment with clean water, immediately after use.

4.2 In case of material hardening, use Fosroc Solvent 102 and clean mechanically.

• Proofex OGP – Waterproofing
• Nitoflor EPU100 – Flooring
• Dekguard E2000 – Coating

THE PROJECT
Al-Turki Business Park is one of the most prestigious office complexes in Dhahran city. It
incorporates a 14-storey ultra-modern “Tower” and a block of ten buildings, “The Lofts”.
2
The 2-level basement of the Park consists of a 16,000m car parking and three concrete
tanks which will feed the complex with potable water. One of the major concerns in
these two contiguous structures, the parking and the tanks, is to provide the floor of the
first with traffic-resistant topping and to protect its walls from vehicles exhaust gases,
and to ensure effective watertight containment for the second.

Known for its comprehensive waterproofing and concrete protection solutions, Fosroc Proofex OGP water containment
was consulted, and its proposed system was favored due to its practicality and durability. system inside the tanks

THE SOLUTION
In order to maintain watertight protection for the tanks, a double-lining waterproof
system was used. The system had to be compatible with potable water and it consisted
of Nitocote CM210 elastomeric cementitious coating, and Proofex OGP Thermoplastic
Polyolefin membrane, which was applied as a loose-fit “tank-in-tank” lining system.

The floor of the car parking was coated with 500µm of abrasion resistant epoxy-
polyurethane based Nitoflor EPU100, and the walls were coated with anti-carbonation
coating system, Dekguard E2000, which possesses breathability property, allowing the Nitoflor EPU100 flooring & Dekguard
water vapor accumulated in the structure to escape. With the attractive appearance and E2000 coating in the Parking lot
various colors of the coating, the parking lot exhibited a marvelous decorative finish.

THE BENEFITS
Before the official opening of the complex, various quality assurance tests were carried
out, including flood tests for the tanks to ensure water tightness; when showed
successful results, the client affirmed that his two structures were in the hands of an
effective protective system that would bring him peace of mind throughout their service.

The solutions provided by Fosroc for the two structures were cost-effective, focusing in
