PANDEMONIUM
The Case Study Challenge
OVERVIEW ON VIDYAKANSHA
Vidyakansha is a registered Non-Profit organization founded by graduates from ISB, IIMA, IIMB and
XLRI to ensure that quality education reaches the most remote villages of the country. They have a
volunteer base of 270+ volunteers from the leading institutes of the country (IITs, NITs, IIMs, BITS)
who are enabling a digital knowledge transfer of academic mentoring along with personality
development, mental health, and career counselling trainings to 840+ students across 5 states and
47 villages in rural India.

How is this being done: Via smart classrooms which have been set up in the government schools,
where the volunteer-teachers are teaching the students over zoom/ google meet and conducting
weekly tests to gauge retention and teaching efficiency.

Partnerships: They have tied up with Dell Technology enabled education platform StepInClass, to
create an accessible-to-all, free of cost technology forum with myriad live classes and course
offerings- from academics to personality development and mental health.

THE TELENGANA PROJECT

They have signed an agreement with the District Collector of the Mulugu District in Telangana to set
up smart classrooms in the government schools which would be gateways for quality teaching by our
volunteer-teachers, during school hours (2 PM- 4PM daily) with proactive support from school
authorities and schoolteachers. The first phase of our pilot in the Mulugu District has commenced
and has been running successfully since 1st Feb'21, in which they have set up 6 smart classrooms, in
3 government schools, with over 12 laptops, speakers, projectors and modems over which the nearly
360 students of classes 9th and 10th are receiving free, quality education from Vidyakansha’s
volunteer-teachers. Vidyakansha’s curriculum and testing mechanism is driven by data-analytics and
They adopt a constructivist and practical approach of teaching to ensure the holistic growth and
development of the student. While they give value to academic excellence, they firmly believe that
each child is different and unique in their talents, and therefore have restructured examinations to
accommodate the testing of various skillsets and promote an interactive learning environment
which kindles curiosity. With a strict teacher to student ratio of 1:10, Vidyakansha ensures that each
student is getting the time and attention, he or she deserves. In the second phase of our expansion,
they hope to reach out to and transform education for more students in the Mulugu district as well
as other rural schools all over India through our smart classrooms.

THE PROBLEM STATEMENT

Organization Behaviour and Sustainable Expansion they are looking to replicate the Telangana
Model in other states of the country by partnering up with the District collectors of the villages of
the country and setting up smart classrooms in major schools of the rural districts. However, there
are some bottlenecks in terms of achieving a sustainable expansion, with the model that they
currently have in place. Your task is to resolve these bottlenecks.

• Organization Behaviour: Considering that the organization is heavily reliant on volunteers,

what can be some incentive structures or progression curves which can be offered to the
volunteers are a minimum or free of cost basis to ensure that motivation does not dip with
time. Chart out a volunteer progression plan to ensure that each volunteer can give a
satisfied commitment of at least 3 months.
OR
• Sustainable growth Plan WRT revenue: To ensure that the organization is performing its
day-to-day operations smoothly, there need to be at least 3-4 full time employees, and also
to ensure a steady growth and penetration into rural districts across the country devices for
smart classes are required. For all the above, the organization needs liquidity. Suggest a
sustainable revenue inflow strategy which will not only enable employment without attrition
but also support device acquisition and growth.
THE DELIVERABLE
The case solution needs to be submitted in PPT format (Maximum 5 slides + 1 slide with team name,
font: Calibri, font size: 10). Shortlisted teams will give a live presentation on the day of the event.
