I. Introduction

Statement of the Problem

Concerning our current situation, people became conscious about their surroundings

relating to hygiene, health, and sanitation because of the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19),

especially in the whole part of Cebu. In a study, researchers concluded that 1 in 5 people

do not regularly wash their hands, and who wash their hands, 70 % do not use soap.

Otherhand, there is a growing demand for products like alcohol and sanitizers. It is also

experiencing an increase in its prices and at the same time facing a shortage in supply.

Thus, the government and World Health Organization (WHO) are requiring people to

bring their sanitizers, including masks and face shields. It is when they are in public and

crowded places to keep them safe from the deadly virus. However, there are instances

that our bottled hand sanitizers got empty and need to be refilled with another one so we

can use them on time. Concurrently, we cannot afford to buy a new bottled hand sanitizer

because of the tight budget, and even the location of the convenience store is not

accessible. Therefore, the only option left is to ask a stranger or someone you know to

lend a few drops of hand sanitizer to keep your hands hygienic.

The problem stated above is a general public concern that needs to address. Thus, the

team made an innovative idea to provide a convenient refilling automated hand sanitizer

machine available for everyone as a solution. It is called Project Ingatan a community

based enterprise that aims to provide eco-friendly, affordable and convenient access to a

quality hand sanitizer. It is also a means of job opportunity to affected people who are

struggling during this trying time. The machine is portable which can easily be installed

anywhere and everywhere. It also uses green technology, specifically solar panels, as one

of its power which does not cause energy pollution. It does not only promote health and

sanitation but also the concept of sustainable livelihood.

The rule of personal hygiene is salient to everyone considering the lifetime benefits it

can give. It is also vital to keep the community ill-free with constant usage of hand

sanitizer. Furthermore, it is the main idea of Project Ingatan to provide a low-cost hand

sanitizer automated refilling machine to keep people healthy all day long. In a way that it

brings up the bright side of living a balanced and wholesome life. Furthermore, keeping

oneself safe and active is necessary, aside from constant cleaning the surroundings. It is a

must to visit and ask help from a physician to monitor and assess the improvement of a

person's health condition.

II. Project’s Profile

A. Project ‘s Name

Ingatan is a Tagalog translation of the English word "safeguard." Thus, the

proponents chose to adopt this as the project’s name. It embodies the idea of health and

sanitation, especially for personal hygiene. In which, it also resembles the project’s

identity to provide an eco-friendly and hassle-free portable automated hand sanitizer

refilling machine where everyone can refill their empty bottles of alcohol.

B. Project’s Description

Project Ingatan (Eco-friendly Portable Automated Hand Saniter Refillling

Machine)  is a community-based enterprise that aims to provide an eco-friendly portable

automated hand sanitizer refilling machine to the entire population of the Island of Cebu.

It also a form of job opportunity for everyone, especially those affected by the pandemic,

such as low-wage workers. It is where they will be hired as a sales representative.

Otherwise, it is also a business opportunity for small and medium enterprises to have an

additional income. On the other hand, the company (Unilever Philippines Inc.) will be the

one to supply hand sanitizers for the machines. It is to ensure the best quality product to

use in the project. 

Overall, the project is entirely focused on the community's welfare and well-being. It

also aims to reduce waste and energy pollution, especially plastic. Thus, it amplifies that

there are always ways to stay healthy in a limited and tight situation.

C. Project’s Main Product and Its Projected Price

 The machine is not the typical automated refilling machine but an improved one. It is

portable and lightweight which can be easily installed anywhere. For example, in the bus

stations, school campuses, malls, etc. It also uses a specific cooling system that allows the

alcohol not to melt even under the sun. It empowers everyone to use hand sanitizer daily

to keep them safe with only a limited budget. Thus, the design of the machine is

compelling which it represents the culture and tradition of the Filipinos, specifically the

Cebuano aesthetics.

Additionally, there is not yet an exact fixed selling price for the machine and hand

sanitizer. It has a definite way on how to compute it by adding the raw materials, labor

cost, and overhead cost then mark up.

D. Project’s Target Market

Business to Business (Future Production)- This project is targeting the mall,

wholesalers and retailers who want to venture in the produt being offered.

F. Project’s Beneficaries and Its Impact

 You now most likely have a bottle of hand sanitizer in your bag as your go-to

disinfectant because of Coranivirus 2019 (COVID-19). Thus, this projects aims to

provide an easy-access alcohol-based sanitizer affordably and conveniently. It is

beneficial to the following:

Community- This project will benefit the community in a way that people will

become more hygienic. It will be available in various areas where everyone has access to

it. Besides, it will help to remind and educate people how important to sanitize their

hands. It is to keep the community illness-free.

Entrepreneurs- This project can be a good source of sustainable livelihood for

affected entrepreneurs, specifically small-scale enterprises. It is not only for them to

generate income and profit, but also to inform their customers and the public of the

relevance of proper hygiene and sanitation in today's situation.

Consumers- This product will help them have an accessible and affordable hand

sanitizer to keep them safe and clean from any variants of COVID-19.

Company (The Uniliver)- Since Unilever offers products that are for people which it

makes people feel and look good. It resonates with their vision, “We have ambitious

plans for sustainable growth and an intense sense of social purpose.” With that, this

project has a similar purpose to the company to make the world better and livable through

providing useful personal and home products. In a way that people will improve their

state of wellness and well-being. 

The UN sustainable goals to be addressed with this product:

1. Good Health and Well-being- Good hand hygiene involving hand washing and/or the

use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers (ABHS) has shown to reduce the risk of infection

from both respiratory and enteric viruses (Prazuck et al. 2010; Stebbins et al. 2011,

Warren-Gash et al. 2012). With the help of this project, it will serve as protection against

viruses. It is where people can disinfect themselves anytime and anywhere they go. They

can refill their bottle of hand sanitizer without worrying if it is empty. 

2. Provides Livelihood- This helps to provide a livelihood to the community since it is a

profit-based product. It is also where companies and even the government will find a way

to create this product sustainable and available for everyone. Consequently, it will

improve the standard of living and the economic development of our country, especially

the lives of the Cebuanos.

3. Reduce Waste- As an extra precaution, many people will use paper towels to open

doors when leaving bathrooms or used it to wipe objects. Thus, this product aims to

reduce paper towels and any other products for cleaning and sanitizing purposes. It will

place near exits and as much as possible everywhere to make it easier for people to

defend themselves from viruses without needing to create an additional mess.
