BambuseaECO: Think green and live green!

Coronavirus has been an internationally recognized pandemic that causes human-to-

human transmission of respiratory viruses (World Health Organization, 2020). The outbreak
contributed to preventive measures, such as lockdowns, quarantines and the use of personal
protective equipment (PPE). Among the most used PPEs are the facemask, which effectively
restrains the transmittable disease spread. The BambuseaECO face mask is an inventive mask
aimed at shielding users from virus acquisition. Aside from its intent, it is also environmentally
friendly as it uses an alternative material called the bamboo fabric with a high biodegradation
rate, unlike disposable masks on the market today (Fazita M.R. et al., 2015). It is safe for the
environment as it mitigates the possibility of affecting biodiversity, aquatic habitats and social
risks in the short or long term.
BambuseaECO aims to be an existing company dedicated to rebuilding alternative face
masks' poor reputation by innovating products of comfort and affordability towards
environmentalism, social change, and global skills. Furthermore, it is part of its mission to
deliver high-quality, sustainable, environmentally friendly commodities with efficiency and a
competent goal of consumer protection and well-being. Our goal is to lessen community
transmission cases and the remarkable rise of the economy due to the high demand and high
production of face masks. We also intend to reduce the number of cases of face masks that are
harming the environment. In relation to this, the sustainable development goal aligned with our
project is Responsible Consumption and Production. The 12th SDG acknowledges that long-term
development and economic growth rely on improving how we manufacture and consume goods.
It needs more effective and environmentally sustainable materials management over the life
cycle through manufacturing, use, and disposal (World Bank, 2020). It is separating the
economic growth from unbearable resources use and emissions, furthermore enhancing the
management of hazardous substances and waste (Stefanie Chan, 2018). The objective of this
SDG is the proper disposal of our waste and economic growth. Like the commercialized face
mask, since many individuals do not dispose of their used face mask properly, it can damage the
environment. We, therefore, come to the idea of creating the BambuseaECO face mask: the eco-
friendly mask.
As for the meantime, it is available within the premises of Cebu. Behind the success of
the product are the young innovators of Grade 12 St. John Paul II from the University of San
Jose Recoletos. Leading the company to huge success is the owner and co-founder of the
business, Mr. Ejay D. Villaver. The mask is attracts buyers because it guarantees everyone's
safety. This research aims to test the use of bamboo fabric as an alternative material to create a
face mask in terms of its strength, protection, comfort, and biodegradability. As mentioned, this
is associated with one of the sustainable development goals. With that, this project's objective is
to create an innovative face mask that is economical, safe, and comfortable. It seeks to reduce
our ecological footprint because of the eco-friendly material. It provides efficient protection to
the customers considering that bamboo is a high-quality antibacterial and antifungal material. In
doing so, achieving a sustainable consumption pattern and economic growth since the product
can be recycled and less expensive.
The company's overall cost for its raw materials and other equipment needed for the
operation is Php 98,703.89. There will be three main materials in creating BambuseaECO face
mask using bamboo fabrics as the main material. The machines required are sewing materials to
wrap up the fabrics, devices that will be the last process to make the product, and factory
workers—bearer for online deliveries. Online sellers photograph and write descriptions of the
items they will sell and put the information online. They calculate total purchase amounts, taxes,
and shipping costs, process payments, and send orders. Managers to control and manage all
workers of the company. If you want to support the company’s project or for more information
