HANDA'S SURPRISE ACTIVITY

1. Jigsaw Activity: The teacher provide 7 fruits in 7 secret boxes. The students are
divided into some groups and they must guess the fruits by touching and smelling
them. A half of the group is only allowed to touch, and the other half is only allowed
to smell. They discuss to decide what are the fruits in each boxes. They make notes
which will be used in the next Activity
2. Drawing by Listening: The students are asked to draw 7 animals to make finger
puppets. They need to guess the animals. The teachers will mention the characteristics
of the animals.
3. Story Telling: The Teacher tell the story 'Handa's Surprise' and the students listen to
him/her. Here the students get the list of the fruits and they review and revise their
guessing fruits at the first Activity.
4. Mini drama: The Students share the characters of animals, they discuss and decide by
themselves what animal each of them will be. The teachers retell the story of 'Handa’s
Surprise' and the students act as the animals and take the fruits from the secret boxes.
5. Deepening: In the end of Activity, the teacher asks the students some questions to
deepen the material, such as: How do you know that the orange is in that box? How is
the surface of it? When are you sure that in that box is the orange, at the beginning or
when I mention the fruits in the story? How is the smell? Did you ever smell the
passion fruit previously? Do you know it from the shape? How is the shape? Do you
know it from the size? How is the size?
