    The student reflects positively on their COMM 1010 class. They were initially scared to take the class due to being antisocial but learned a lot. Their favorite assignments were the interview project, which took them out of their comfort zone, and the public speaking assignment. Both assignments helped improve their social and communication skills and gave them more confidence. Because of the class, the student is less nervous giving presentations and has learned to better communicate with different cultures. They are glad they took the class as it was required for their surgical technician program.

    Reflection

    I have loved this class. I was very scared to take the class because I can be very

    antisocial and don’t like putting myself out there. I have learned so much from this class. My

    favorite assignment/project was the Interview project. My other favorite assignment was the

    Public Speaking assignment. Both of these taught me so much about how to better

    communicate. I feel a lot more confident with my social skills because of this class and these

    assignments.

    The interview project really put me out of my comfort zone. I had to go to someone with

    the career of my interest and interview them. This interview took me a little while to put

    together because I was dreading it. My interview was fantastic. I loved getting to learn more

    about the career from someone who has actually experienced it. I was very proud of myself for

    going somewhere new and doing something that I was not comfortable with.

    Because of this class, I’m not as nervous to give presentations in all of my classes. I have

    learned more about how to communicate with others from different cultures. It is very important

    to learn how to communicate with others. I never would have thought to take this class. This

    class was a prerequisite for the surgical technician program that I am taking part of at Salt Lake

    Community College. I have improved so much from the beginning of the semester and am very

    glad that I took this class!
