Activity 1

 1. What materials was used in each artwork?

I think both uses the common materials of carving which are carving knives, carving
mallet, chisels, veiners, v-tools, paint, bench knives and other materials that is being
use for carving. I think in the picture which there’s carabao used acacia tree or wood
because the wood from acacia tree is used primarily for making bowl and gift item in
wood carving. The dark striations that adorn the carabao’s wooden body also suggest
that the sculpture is made of acacia. In picture 2 I think it uses wood, rock (aluminum
and cement are the alternative), nail, hammer to form the horses head.

2. Describe how the artwork was made.

I think it involves cutting or chipping away a shape from a mass of stone, wood or
other hard materials. The art work was made by a technique called carving technique
which uses tools to shape something from a material by scraping away portion of
those materials. The technique can be applied to any materials that are solid enough
to hold a form so it can be apply or it is the technique that is being used in both
pictures in the activity.
