Anyathian Culture

According to the chronological sequence of the geological age,the stone age

culture have been developed along the Ayeyarwaddy River Valley in
Myanmar.Paleolithic culture is called Anyathian Culture.The Relics of Anyatian
culture are found only in Anya Area.The stone tools and the fossilized wood tools
were found along the River Terraces and these tools resemble the Anyathian
Culture.The Anyathian culture have been developed in Pleistocene
period(11,000BCE) along Ayeyarwaddy Bank.

Anyathian culture can be divided into two stages, Early Anyathian and
Late Anyathian.Early Anyathian mans similar to Java Man and Peking Man.Late
Anyathian closed to Neanderthal.The Early Anyathian consists of
Magwe,Minbu,Pakkoku,Yenangyaung and Chauk ,etc.The Late Anyathian include
Magwe,Chauk,Pauk,Yaw Valley and between Singu and Pagan.The first discoverer of
Anyathian culture is Dr.de Terra,geologist from the united states.He built up the
timeline of Ayeyarwaddy River Terraces.There are five river terraces which are in
descending order,Terrace(1),Terrace(2),Terrace(3),Terrace(4) and (5).

Anyathian culture developed in the pluvial period.Anyathian mans were

very skillful hunters and used fire but they can't make fire.The Anyathian tools
makers are the earliest upright walking man.The weather changed many times at
Pleistocene period.The people might have been lived in the caves and then they might
need to migrate from one place to another,for food,shelter and their livings.They have
to struggle and they made the advanced tools such as adze,chopper,scraper,bamboo
shaft,wooden spear.The artifacts from the Anyathian culture,resemble closely to
Southeast Asia as well as India and China.The anyathian man used hand-adzes
similarly found in South China.They have high brain capacity to make tools.Besides
stone tools,they also used tools made of silicified tuff,fossil wood,quartz and wooden
spears.The comtemporary man are Java Man and Peking Man.The Anyathian,Burma's
Stone Age existed as the time through parallel to the lower and middle Paleolithic in
Europe.

Anyathian tools found in Terrace(2).It stands for lond dry interpluvial

phase.It occurs about 180 to 250 feet about rivers.Hand adzes have been found in
Terrace 2.Terrace 3 is the widest and the most conspicuous of all levels.About 100
implements are found at terrace 3.At Magwe,Yenangyaung,Chauk and Pagan,there
are about 400 stone implements are found.

Anyathian culture is the famous culture and important for reconstruct the
history of Myanmar.The fragments of stone implements and others evidences can tell
the past Anyathian's man behaviors and activities.Without these informations,we can't
reconstruct the history of the sites.So that,the assemblage of stone tools in conjunction
with additional archaeological evidences give that how people lived by hunting
animals and gathering wild fruits.
