1 Introduction

1.1 Scope

This document provides recommended guidelines for defining functional

specifications and scope of work for a Process Control System (PCS) project.
It is recommended that project teams use the appendices as a starting point for
their project. Items in red should be filled in with information specific to the
project.

1.2 Intended Users

This document is intended to be used by Saudi Aramco Project Management

Teams (SAPMT) that are working on projects requiring Process Control Systems.

1.4 Disclaimer

The use of this Best Practice does not relieve the engineer from his
responsibility or duty to confirm and verify the accuracy of any information
presented herein. This Best practice is shall not be considered as replacement
for any Mandatory Saudi Aramco Engineering Requirements.

1.5 Conflicts

In the event of a conflict between this Best Practice and other Mandatory Saudi
Aramco Engineering Requirements, the Mandatory Saudi Aramco Engineering
Requirement shall govern.

3 General

Project specifications for Process Control Systems (PCS) should separate functional
requirements from the actual Scope of Work for the project. This allows general
functional/technical requirements to be re-used from project-to-project. Sample generic
functional requirements documents are contained in Table 1. They should be used as a
‘go-by’ for developing the project-specific functional specifications.
