Turbocharger NR12/S - New Gaps and Clearances Cus 310 • 10/11

Application NR12/S

Reason With CUS 287 we informed you about the new design of NR12/S
turbochargers. With this design change the gaps and clearances have
changed as well.

Compliance Highly recommended

Description With the introduction of the new cartridge design for NR12/S turbochargers,
the gaps and clearances have also been changed. Especially the gaps on the
compressor side have been slightly increased. The instruction manual has
therefore been changed too.

Actions The current instruction manual can be downloaded from the DieselPort
system. Furthermore with each cartridge delivered, an instruction manual is
supplied together with a balance ring (S) for adjustment on the compressor
side.
It is recommended to check the new gaps and clearances at the next overhaul.
Please update the instruction manuals on board with the enclosed pages.

Contact Should you have any questions or if you don’t have access to DieselPort,
please do not hesitate to contact our Technical Service Department.

a) Using a feeler gauge, measure at 4 points on the circumference and calculate the mean value.
b) Measure by means of soft metal imprint (lead wire) at 3 points on the circumference and calculate the
mean value. Deduct the measured axial clearance (5) from the calculated mean value with the rotor
pushed in direction (B).

c) Adjustable by remachining or by shim at balance ring (S).

e) Measure with a dial gauge while vigorously moving the rotor in directions (A) and (B).
*) The axial play in installed condition may be the same or no more than 0.05 mm less than the individual
component measurement.

Exact measurement of the axial clearance (5)

1. Measure and note the distance (K5).
2. Measure and note the width (B) of the locating bearing (517.002).
3. Axial clearance (5): actual value = (K5) - (B).
