TOPIC: Design of a residential building

Objectives:

1. To enable students to design a slab of a residential building.

Relevance to Real Life (Practical Applications): This problem-based learning (PBL) activity
will empower students to apply their knowledge of design of one-way and two-way slabs to real
life situation. On successful completion of this activity the students can design a residential
building.
Narrative: You are appointed as a Junior Design Engineer at a consultant firm. You are required
to design the ground floor slab of a residential building provided to you. Assume SIDL as 60 psf
and live load as 40 psf. Use fc’=3 ksi and fy= 60 ksi.
Response Required:

1. Design all the slab panels.

2. Draw a neat sketch of the reinforcement of slab.
