Unit 34: Principles of

Photography
My chosen theme is Culture and I have selected 5 images to do with music and behind the scenes
of performances. I strongly believe that music is linked to our cultural identity and shapes who we
become. Recently I was shooting a live show for MRK Events and while I was there, I took the
following photos. These photos include some of Irelands up and coming music stars from different
nationalities and backgrounds.

I took these photos on two cameras, the first being my own Sony A7III and the other being a Sony
FS7 mk2. I used a variety of lens and techniques to capture different shots. I shoot RAW to get
higher quality images.

This was shot on a Sony FS7 mk2 with a 70-200mm f/4 lens with a shutter speed of 1/50. This was taken using
a tripod during his performance with another artist called Nealo. The composition of this image is the Rule of
Thirds, as well as leading lines. I used Adobe Lightroom to edit this image, I adjusted the White Balance to
make sure the colours were correct and I also heighted the saturation.

Jehnova
 Fia Moon
This image was shot on my Sony A7III with a 24-70mm f/2.8
lens with a shutter speed of 1/250. I took this while Fia was
warming up, as I thought it looked good with the spotlights
creating leading lines and the background being slightly
blurrier than her. I used the 1/250 shutter speed because Fia
was moving around quite slow, and I wanted a clean, non-
blurry portrait photo. While editing this photo I used HSL to
make the red lights behind her more orange, saturated and
brighter so they didn’t clash with her top. I also edited out a
water bottle sitting directly behind her as it drew away focus
from Fia. For this image I needed a high ISO (8000) because it
was taken in such low lighting.

 This was shot on a Sony FS7 mk2 with a 70-200mm f/4 lens with a shutter speed of 1/50. This image was taken
using a tripod, it contains leading lines, as all the light beams are pointing at him. When editing this photo, I
used HSL to brighten the lights behind him and make them more vibrant and the white balance was adjusted so
the colours where correct.

4 Soda Blonde
 Focus
This image was shot on my Sony A7III with a
50mm f/1.8 lens with a shutter speed of 1/250. I
used this specific lens to get a blurry background
and to frame the artist inside the Sony FS7
mk2’s view finder clearly. For this image I
needed a high ISO (1600) because it was taken
in a place with low lighting. When editing this
image, I added grain and I adjusted the
temperature and tint so the colours were correct
(White Balance)

This image was shot on my Sony A7III with a 24-

70mm f/2.8 lens with a shutter speed of 1/250. It
shows a member of the crew framing up his shot
before filming begins. I used the 1/250 shutter speed
because the crew member was standing still, and I
wanted a clean portrait photo of him from behind to
show what he was doing. For this image I needed a
high ISO (5000) because it was taken in low
lighting. While editing this image I used HSL to
make the stage lights look brighter and more
saturated, I also added grain to the image for
creative effect.
