Accounting For Research Methods - PRELIM
Accounting For Research Methods - PRELIM
(30pts)
According to Procter (2004), a literature review is an account of previously published
material by experts and researchers in a particular area of interest. The literature review gives the
author an opportunity to reference previous research publications to provide strengths and
weaknesses of the research and it should provide the author with a base of knowledge from
which they will build upon with knowledge that they provide to the area of interest.
In my point of view, there are a lot of benefits a researcher can get in having a good
Review of Related Literature because through this, the research will be more reliable and be more
informative. It serves as a way for the researcher to get new and different ideas which is needed
in the research, and it gives strength for the paper because having a RRL enhances the research. It
also has a potential to reveal problems other individuals have come across in their research that
may help the researcher to combat problems that they are facing. Also, through this, it helps to
understand the findings and help them to relate their research to previous research. A good
Review of Related Literature makes the research paper more appealing, has a clarity, reliability,
transparency and quality in which it may also help and become a reference for the future
researches.
It is significant because it is the main part of the research paper and it shows an
understanding of theories and concepts relevant to the topic of the research. Also, it connects
the researcher to the existing knowledge, and to generalize the various aspects of an observed
phenomenon from simply describing it and identifies their limits. Also, it addresses the questions
of ‘how’ and ‘why’ by articulating the theoretical assumptions of a research. On the other hand,
theoretical framework strengthens the research study in many ways just like having a theory
helps the researcher to identify the limits to those generalizations.
