TOTAL MARK ALLOCATION: 60 MARKS
TOTAL HOURS: 1 HOUR (+5 minutes reading time)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Please adhere to all instructions in the assessment booklet.
2. Independent work is required.
3. Five minutes per hour of the assessment to a maximum of 15 minutes is dedicated to
reading time before the start of the assessment. You may make notes on your question
paper, but not in your answer sheet. Calculators may not be used during reading time.
4. You may not leave the assessment venue during reading time, or during the first hour or
during the last 15 minutes of the assessment.
5. Ensure that your name is on all pieces of paper or books that you will be submitting. Submit
all the pages of this assessment’s question paper as well as your answer script.
6. Answer all the questions on the answer sheets or in answer booklets provided. The phrase
‘END OF PAPER’ will appear after the final set question of this assessment.
7. Remember to work at a steady pace so that you are able to complete the assessment within
the allocated time. Use the mark allocation as a guideline as to how much time to spend on
each section.

Question 1 (Marks: 10)


You just started studying business analysis and a friend of yours wants to know the importance of
business analysis in an organisation. He heard someone talking about POPIT model and also asked
you about it. Answer the following questions clearly, in order to later explain to your friend.

Q.1.1 What is the importance of the business analysis? (4)

Scenario: A lecturer asked students to do a SWOT analysis on one of the branches of a telecoms
company as a group in one assessment. However, one student told others she was not coming to
the group meeting and will do her own thing since groups make her fail.

Most organisations face a complex and changing external environment of increasing
unpredictability. Strategy and the ability to analyse business environment is very important.
PESTEL analysis helps organisations to assess their broad environment.

Q.3.1 In your own words explain what you understand by the term “strategy” in (3)
context to business analysis.

Q.3.2 Explain why PESTEL Analysis is a critical tool in assessing external (12)
organisational challenges, threats and opportunities.

Q.3.3 When a company is executing a “new strategy” there are various risks that (10)
needs to be considered before implementing it. Briefly explain the five (5)
contextual issues that need to be considered when executing a new strategy.
