Accredited Institutions and Programmes - As - at 28 August 2020
The National Council for Higher Education Act (No. 15 of 2011) gives mandate to the Council
to regulate higher education institutions in Malawi. The National Council for Higher Education
wishes to notify the general public that according to Section 29 of the NCHE Act qualifications
awarded in respect of programmes of instruction by an accredited higher education institution
shall be recognised as comparable and of equivalent merit to similar qualifications awarded in
respect of programmes offered by other accredited higher education institutions in Malawi and
internationally. The following institutions and programmes are accredited in Malawi.

7. University Certificate in Midwifery
8. Bachelor of Science in Adult Health Nursing
9. Bachelor of Science in Child Paediatric Nursing
10. Bachelor of Science in Community Health Nursing
11. Bachelor of Science in Mental Health and Psychiatric
Nursing
12. Bachelor of Science in Midwifery
13. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education
14. Bachelor of Science in Health Service Management
15. Master of Science in Adult Health Nursing
16. Master of Science in Child Health Nursing
17. Master of Science in Community Health Nursing
18. Master of Science in Midwifery
19. Master of Science in Nursing and Midwifery Education
20. Master of Science in Reproductive Health Nursing
21. Doctor of Philosophy in Inter-Professional Health Care

22. Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing
23. Doctor of Philosophy in Midwifery
The National Council for Higher Education further wishes to notify the general public that
private higher education institutions are required to register with NCHE all new programmes
and satellite centres before admitting students or commencing operations in those centres. The
Council would like to assure the public that it is doing everything possible to ensure that only
properly registered private higher education institutions are operating and offering registered
programmes. Both public and private higher education institutions are required to go through
the process of accreditation. The Council is therefore urging all prospective students, parents
and guardians to access lists of all registered and accredited institutions and programmes in
Malawi before enrolling.
