Movement of Groundwater

Groundwater moves from levels of higher energy to levels of lower

energy, its energy being essentially the result of elevation and
pressure, the velocity head being neglected since flow is essentially
laminar.
(ν = 1 cm2/sec, Re = 1 to 10)
Transmissibility coefficient – is the discharge through unit width of
aquifer for the fully saturated depth under a unit hydraulic gradient. (
lpd/m or m2/sec)
Permeability – ability of a formation to transmit water through its
pores when subjected to a difference in head.
- has the dimension of velocity.
Actual Velocity(Va) – at which a tracer(fluorescent dye) is moving
through an aquifer.
