As part of being a college student it is a requirement for us to have our internship in order

to pass the course, but it is not all about that, it is about learning through experience. As the old

saying says, “Experience is the best teacher.” Before having our diplomas it is a must for us,

future professionals, to apply and put all the things we had learned inside the campus and of

course learn more of the real practice through experiencing what’s outside the institution,

because in the reality it is important for us to understand what was happening in the actual field,

because for me it is better to learn how it feels like to dance on the rain rather than staying inside

a four corner room. I know that this is for ourselves to learn, to adjust, to prepare and be an

experienced individual that can independently have a successful future on our chosen career of

work.

Land Bank Malolos Plaza Branch this is the company where I was assigned to conduct or

finish my internship or the so called, On-the-Job Training. At first, I was so very excited to

attend wherein I came to the bank so early that I came earlier than the security guard and staffs

of Landbank, the company I chose to nourish my knowledge and skills. The fact that I am

excited but at the same time nervous of what will be the new environment, the culture and the

people that will surround me. I didn’t have any exact idea of what kind of people will I have to

face on that very moment when I start my training there and how should I adjust with their

personalities and attitudes as well as the pressuring environment I will going to be with.

In my first day in the department of New Accounts, my mentor said that I should observe

him first on how he do the work on assisting clients then while I’m watching the other employee

taught me how to operate the computer on which software must be used and what are the

documents I should print that the other branches sent via email.

On the second day, I am already assisting clients on opening an account like ATM cards

and passbooks but then I kept on asking my mentor of what can I do for my client’s profile I am

very nervous when I had to assist a client because I am not used to facing other people and my

confidence is not that high yet I don’t even know what kind of client is he/she especially

sometimes if the client is easily embarrassed.

In the other day of my internship, it seems that, bit by bit, I am getting used to the process

on the new accounts like issuing a passbook, ATM cards, printing, Xeroxing, sending emails,
scanning and etc. On the consecutive days, I always assisting clients to issue their new passbook

and ATM cards, sometimes I assist them on updating their accounts, upon assisting them I am

happy on serving them, and do my duties very well but then there are times that I had assisted

some client who are short tempered and arrogant, which I know that can’t be avoided yet I don’t

like them because even if you already did your best to serve them nicely they will still treat you

harshly and get angry with you but for the sake of my duty, especially new accounts, I still have

to treat them nice and polite but of course have the courage to face them and be confident in

front of them.

As weeks pass by, I eventually improve in my communication and technical skills. I

easily assist clients because I already knew how to use the different machines and computer

software in order to get all the requirements the clients must give, and unlike before I had gained

my confidence since then, I can face and assist clients very well because I already have the

knowledge and learning on serving them because on the first week I am still on the adjustment

period of knowing things and keep on making mistakes but after a while I get on track, I do less

mistakes and became more productive. I have learned about the rules and regulations of the

company which I find very important, it helped me a lot to do my duties right and aware of

what’s wrong aside from it I get familiarized well on the different processes I have to make when

assisting clients according to what they need if it’s issuing a passbook or ATM card, pin or card

requests, updating client’s profile, and etc. Also, I had been into different Landbank’s software

encoding, printing, sending emails, xeroxing files and other office works. On that time, I already

knew a lot compared to before because every day I learned a lot and started to focus very well on

my duties because I am more confident and knowledgeable of everything.

On the very last week of my On-the-Job training, I have been facing every client full of

confidence while not being nervous anymore, because of this I overcome my self being anxious

whenever I face somebody which is better for my future as a professional individual in my career

work. On that week there are new batch of trainees and as old trainees we are the one teaching

them what to do on the workplace and as for me I taught trainees on the new accounts

department, I enjoyed and so happy to share my knowledge to them, especially because I know

how hard it is on the first days, so I teach them about issuing ATM and passbooks and other
transactions made on the new accounts. I also share some of my experiences and thoughts as

trainees, I am so glad to share with my co-trainees what I learned from my mentor which they

can also use on their journey being trainees. It was a fulfilling kind of feeling that all throughout

the weeks, days and hours that I’d spent on the bank, I am able to give advice for others about

the things I learned that make me proud and overwhelmed with myself for what I gained after the

training and finally ready to face the incoming future ahead of me.

As a trainee I know to myself that I learned a lot but it is not enough for me to be

successful it was just a pre-trial and I am about to experience more of it after this, yet I am still

grateful for what I have experienced on serving others and working with other people. I knew

that there are so many things to know about serving and working but for this time I let myself to

be exposed on different people and responsibilities to take a better improvement with myself first

and understand more about socialization and interaction with other people.

I know that it will take time for us to achieve our goals and dreams but as time goes by

we learned a lot and experience lots of different things on the journey in our lives. People tend to

go lots of ups and downs just before meeting their goals in life but the key on being successful is

by not giving up. Our journeys were built naturally by our Creator who guides us on the path we

take, because on every path there were obstacles and courses, some of it will hit us so hard for us

to be strong and build our faith, for He is there to protect and help us on our way. We have to

learn how to fight courageously and overcome our weaknesses for in the end we will end up

happy and strong in the aspect of life. I know that I am going to face more challenges but despite

of being young I won’t let my age be a struggle instead I take this as an opportunity and

advantage to pursue on life. I, as a young individual, will never let others to underestimate my

capabilities as a person because I believe that I can make my future better. On this journey of

mine I will face everything and go through it because I know I have God and my loved ones who

will serve as my guidance, supporters and inspiration to pursue my mission in life. I am very

thankful now and forever to God and everyone who has been and will be a part of my journey,

without them this couldn’t be possible with their big hands to help and hearts to inspire, I will

make sure that all the knowledge I learn will be used to make my vision come true and fulfill my

mission in life in order for me to find and climb my way up no matter what it takes.
