What is APA style formatting?

What Is APA Format? APA format is the official style of the American

Psychological Association (APA) and is commonly used to cite sources

in psychology, education, and the social sciences. The APA

style originated in a 1929 article published in Psychological Bulletin that

laid out the basic guidelines.

What is the reference page in APA format?

An APA reference page has a distinct look set forth by the American

Psychological Association Manual of Style. The formatting of

the page includes an optional running header, page number header, 1-

inch margins on all sides, references in alphabetical order; hanging

indents* (see End Notes), and centered title "References."

What is included in an APA reference?

All APA reference list entries contain four main components: author,

date, title, and source.

What is APA Format Reference Example?

APA in-text citation style uses the author's last name and the year of

publication, for example: (Field, 2005). For direct quotations, include the

page number as well, for example: (Field, 2005, p. 14).

References include sources that have been directly cited in your paper.

Bibliographies, on the other hand, contain all the sources that you have

used for your paper, whether they are directly cited or not. In

a bibliography, you should include all of the materials you consulted in

preparing your paper.

*What are hanging indents?

A hanging indent is an APA guideline for formatting your reference

page. The first line of your reference will line up with the left margin and

each line after will be indented one-half inch from the left margin. It

basically is opposite of a normal paragraph where you indent the first

line, and can be seen in the example below.
