This document provides instructions for maintaining the proper concentration of corrosion inhibitor DCA4 in the cooling system of a Cummins N14/NT855 engine. It states that the optimum concentration of DCA4 is 0.33 units per liter. It describes how to test the concentration, calculate how much DCA4 is needed to adjust the concentration if it is not optimal, and how changing the water filter or repairing components like the radiator or water pump could affect the concentration. The document stresses the importance of maintaining the proper DCA4 concentration to prevent corrosion in the cooling system.

1 CHECK THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE – IT MUST BE BETWEEN 50 & 130 DEGREES FARENHEIGHT. ROOM TEMPERATURE IS PREFERRED. 2 TEST THE CONCENTRATION OF DCA4 IN THE COOLING SYSTEM. - THE OPTIMUM CONCENTRATION OF DCA4 IS 0,33 UNITS PER LITRE. - THE COOLING SYSTEM CAPACITY IS 45 LITRES (THIS INCLUDES ENGINE, PIPING AND RADIATOR) 3 TO CORRECT THE CONCENTRATION OF DCA4 IN THE COOLING SYSTEM, THE CALCULATION IS DONE AS FOLLOWS: 45 LITRES X 0,33 UNITS = 14,85 UNITS ARE REQUIRED TO PRECHARGE A SYSTEM WITH NO DCA4 i.e. after filling an empty cooling system with fresh water.
DURING SERVICE IT IS OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE TO:
1 CHECK THE DCA4 CONCENTRATION USING THE TEST KIT CC2602A PLEASE NOTE: THE KIT CALCULATION CHART IS IN UNITS/U.S. GALLON (1 U.S. Gal = 3,754 litres) SO IT IS ESSENTIAL TO CONVERT THE READINGS FROM THE CHART INTO LITRES. 2 ALWAYS CHANGE THE WATER FILTER. 3 MAKE UP THE RELEVENT CONCENTRATION OF DCA4 TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE WATER FILTER UNITS WATER FILTER PART NUMBER DCA4 UNITS WF2070 2
WF2071 4
WF2072 6
WF2073 8
WF2074 12
WF2075 15
THE 16 FLUID Oz. (0473 LITRE) BOTTLE CONTAINS 5 DCA4 UNITS
THE 2-QUART (1,89LITRE) BOTTLE CONTAINS 20 DCA4 UNITS IN THE EVENT OF AN ENGINE REPAIR e.g. RADIATOR OR WATER PUMP REMOVAL, THERE IS LIKELY TO BE DEPLETION IN THE CONCENTRAION OF DCA4 PER UNIT LITRE. YOU SHOULD TOP UP THE COOLING SYSTEM WITH CLEAN WATER (DRINKABLE NOT BOREWHOLE WATER) AND THEN CALCULATE THE AMOUNT OF DCA4 TO GET THE MIXTURE BACK TO ITS OPTIMUM LEVEL OF DCA4. e.g. AFTER CHANGING A WATER PUMP, AND TOPPING UP THE COOLING SYSTEM WITH CLEAN WATER, YOU TEST AND FIND THE DCA4 CONCENTRATION TO BE 0,22. YOU MUST THEN ADD DCA4 ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING CALCULATION: REMEMBER, THE OPTIMUM = 0,33 UNITS PER LITRE. YOU TESTED AND FOUND THE CONCENTRATION TO BE 0,22 UNITS PER LITRE. YOU THEREFORE HAVE A DEFICIT OR SHORTAGE OF 0,33 - 0,22 = 0,11 UNITS PER LITRE. SO YOU NEED TO ADD 0.11 X 45 (THE NUMBER OF LITRES OF COOLANT IN THE COOLING SYSTEM) = 4.95 UNITS. IF YOU ADD THE 4.95 UNITS OF DCA4 TO THE SYSTEM, THE DCA4 CONCENTRATION WILL COME TO THE OPTIMUM OF 0.33 UNITS PER LITRE. BUT A SMALL BOTTLE OF DCA4 CONTAINS 5 DCA4 UNITS, SO YOU JUST NEED TO ADD ONE SMALL (1 Fluid Oz.) BOTTLE TO THE COOLING SYSTEM. PLEASE NOTE: THE FLEETGUARD “3-WAY” TEST CONCENTRATION CHART IS IN UNITS PER GALLON SO IT IS IMPERATIVE TO DO A CONVERSION TO UNITS/ LITRE. ALL READINGS ARE TO BE RECORDED ON THE SERVICE CHECKLIST FOR FUTURE REFERENCE
