Với mục đích giúp các em học sinh cả ba khối 10, 11, 12 có thêm tư liệu học tập và chuẩn bị
tốt cho các kỳ thi sắp tới trong thời gian chống dịch covid-19 tại nhà, chúng tôi biên soạn một số
chuyên đề trọng tâm. Nội dung các chuyên đề này bám sát kiến thức Sách giáo khoa tập trung chủ
yếu nhất từ bài 10 đến bài 13 đối với tiếng Anh hệ 7 năm, hệ 10 năm từ bài 7 đến bài 8 và một số
bài khác có liên quan đến cả hai chương trình, đồng thời đảm bảo chuẩn kiến thức, kỹ năng của
chương trình THPT và theo các công văn hướng dẫn của Bộ giáo dục và đào tạo, Sở giáo dục và
đào tạo Phú Yên. Tài liệu này gồm 10 chuyên đề, trong đó có chuyên đề: REPORTED SPEECH
(CÂU TƯỜNG THUẬT).
Giải thích: - Hệ 7 năm: Chương trình chuẩn hay còn gọi là chương trình cơ bản/cũ.
- Hệ 10 năm: Chương trình thí đểm hay còn gọi là chương trình mới.

(CÂU TƯỜNG THUẬT)
DÀNH CHO HỌC SINH KHỐI 12 (CẢ HỆ 7 NĂM VÀ HỆ 10 NĂM)

* PHẦN I: LÝ THUYẾT TRỌNG TÂM

A. CÁC NGUYÊN TẮC CHUNG CỦA CÂU TƯỜNG THUẬT:

- Câu tường thuật (lời nói gián tiếp) là để thuật lại điều ai đó nói. Có thể thuật ngay hay thuật sau. Nếu
thuật ngay dùng động từ tường thuật ở mệnh đề chính ở hiện tại. Nếu thuật lại sau dùng động từ tường thuật
ở mệnh đề chính ở quá khứ.
1. Hiện tại (Tường thuật ngay)
Ex: Lan says: “ I am learning English “
→Lan says ( that ) she is learning English.
2. Quá khứ (Tường thuật lại sau)
Ex: Lan said: “ I am learning English “
→Lan said ( that ) she was learning English.

I. Mệnh đề tường thuật ở hiện tại (Giới thiệu động từ say/ tell…..)
- Khi đổi từ lời nói trực tiếp sang lời nói gián tiếp (Câu tường thuật):
1. Không đổi thì, cụm từ chỉ thời gian và cụm từ chỉ nơi chốn.
2. Đổi hình thức chủ ngữ, tân ngữ, tính từ sở hữu, đại từ sở hữu và đại từ phản thân.
- Có thể tham khảo sự thay đổi của tất cả các thành phần này trong bảng sau:

* Note: Đại từ phản thân cũng thay đổi tương tự và theo thứ tự như vậy.
* Examples:
1. He says: “ I love my parents”
→ He says ( that ) he loves his parents.
2. She says to me, “ I like you “
→ She tells me ( that ) she likes me.
3. We say to them, “ We’ll pick you up at six thirty”
→ We tell them ( that ) we’ll pick them up at six thirty.

II. Mệnh đề tường thuật ở quá khứ (Giới thiệu động từ said/ told…..)
- Khi đổi từ lời nói trực tiếp sang lời nói gián tiếp (Câu tường thuật):
1. Đổi hình thức chủ ngữ, tân ngữ, tính từ sở hữu, đại từ sở hữu và đại từ phản thân.
- Có thể tham khảo sự thay đổi của tất cả các thành phần này trong bảng (Phần I.2)
2. Đổi thì, cụm từ chỉ thời gian và cụm từ chỉ nơi chốn.
2.1 Thay đổi thì (động từ) trong câu tường thuật.
- Động từ tường thuật là động từ giới thiệu câu nói trực tiếp hay câu nói gián tiếp. Khi đổi từ câu trực tiếp
sang câu gián tiếp, động từ tường thuật được thay đổi tùy theo trường hợp cụ thể. Dưới đây là các động
tường thuật dùng trong câu:
Said → said that
Said to sb → told sb that
Ex: He said, “I am twenty years old.”
→ He said that he was twenty years old.
He said to me, “I work in a factory.”
→ He told me that he worked in a factory.

- Khi động từ tường thuật ở các thì quá khứ, chúng ta đổi thì trong câu gián tiếp như sau:

Ex: He said, “I am working hard today.”

→He said that he was working hard that day.

* LƯU Ý: Các trường hợp KHÔNG thay đổi thì trong câu tường thuật:

a. Câu điều kiện loại 2 và 3.

Nếu câu nói trực tiếp là câu điều kiện loại 2 và loại 3, ta chỉ thay đổi các đại từ, tình từ…mà không đổi thì
trong câu.
Ex: “If I were older, I would retire.”, he said.
→He said if he were older, he would retire.
“If I had heard the whole story, I would have acted differently”, he said
→He said that if he had heard the whole story, he would have acted differently.

b. Câu trực tiếp diễn tả một chân lí, hay một thói quen ở hiện tại.
Nếu câu nói trực tiếp nói về một sự thật, một chân lí hay một thói quen thường xuyên lặp đi, lập lại ở hiện
tại, khi đổi sang câu gián tiếp ta phải giữ nguyên thì của câu trực tiếp.
Ex The teacher said, “The earth moves round the Sun”
→ The teacher said that The earth moves round the Sun.
“My wife always drinks coffee for breakfast.”
→ He said that his wife always drinks coffee for breakfast.

c. Động từ tường thuật ở thì hiện tại đơn, hiện tại tiếp diễn, hiện tại hoàn thành, các thì tương lai.
Nếu động từ tường thuật ở thì hiện tại đơn, hiện tại tiếp diễn, hiện tại hoàn thành, các thì tương lai, khi đổi
sang câu gián tiếp, ta không thay đổi thì, các cụm trạng từ, cụm từ chỉ thời gian và cụm từ chỉ nơi chốn, mà
chỉ thay đổi các đại từ hay tính từ…
Ex: He says/ He is saying/ He has said/ He will say, “The bus is coming.”
→ He says/ He is saying/ He has said/ He will say that the bus is coming.

d. Không thay đổi thì của động từ trong câu gián tiếp nếu có thời gian xác định trong quá khứ.
Ex: She said, ‘‘I was born in 1980’’
→ She said that she was born in 1980. (was không thay đổi)

e. Các động từ khiếm khuyết: could, would, might, ought to, should thường không thay đổi trong câu
tường thuật.
Ex: He said, “I might come.”
→He said that He might come.
- Khi tường thuật mệnh đề ước muốn: “wish’
Ex: He said: “I wish I had a lot of money”
 He wished (that) he had a lot of money
- Khi tường thuật cấu trúc: “It’s (high/ about) time”
Ex: She said: “It’s about time you went to bed; children”
 She told her children that it’s about time they went to bed

B. CÁC DẠNG TƯỜNG THUẬT:

I . REPORTED SPEECH: STATEMENTS (Câu trần thuật ở dạng trình bày)

Ta dùng động từ say hoặc tell để tường thuật:

1. S + said + (that) + S + V
2. S + told + O + (that) + S + V

Ex: He said, “I have just bought a computer today.”

 He said that he had just bought a computer that day.
Linda said to Bill: “There is someone at the door.”
 Linda told Bill that there was someone at the door.

II. REPORTED SPEECH: QUESTIONS (Câu trần thuật ở dạng câu hỏi)
a. Yes-No questions: Khi đổi sang câu gián tiếp, ta cần thêm if hoặc whether trước chủ từ của câu hỏi
được tường thuật:

1. S + asked + (O) + if / whether + S + V

2. S + wondered + if /whether + S + V
3. S + wanted to know + if /whether + S +V

Ex: He said to me, “Are you from Canada?”

He asked me if/whether I was from Canada.
The man said to her, “Did Bill tell you my address?”
The man asked her if/whether Bill had told her his address.
The girl said, “Do you live near here, David?”
She asked David if/whether he lived near there.

b. Wh – Questions/ How- Questions: Các câu hỏi bắt đầu bằng một từ để hỏi như: who, when, where,
when, why, how…

1. S + asked + (O) + wh/how-word + S + V

2. S + wondered + wh/how-word+ S + V
3. S + wanted to know + wh/how-word + S + V

Ex: He said to them, “Where are you going?”

He asked them where they were going.

III. REPORTED SPEECH: COMMANDS/ORDERS/REQUESTS (Câu mệnh lệnh/Câu đề nghị)

- Ta dùng động từ ask hoặc tell để tường thuật:

1. S + told/asked + O + to V(inf)
2. S + told /asked+ O + not + to V(inf)

Ex: Dick said to Jim: “Please open the window.”

 Dick told Jim to open the window.
Mother said, “Tim, go to bed early.”
 Mother told Tim to go to bed early.

IV. MỘT SỐ TRƯỜNG HỢP CẦN LƯU Ý:

1. Câu tường thuật với “infinitive”:

a. Tường thuật câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu (Imperatives/ Commands or Requests) dùng cấu trúc: tell/ ask/
request/ order somebody (not) to do something.
Ex: “Read carefully before signing the contract,” he said.
He told me to read carefully before signing the contract.
“The commander said to his soldier, "Shoot!."
The commander ordered his soldier to shoot.
“Please talk slightly,” they said.
They requested us to talk slightly.
“Listen to me, please”
He asked me to listen to him.
“Will you help me, please?”
He asked me to help him.
“Will you lend me your dictionary?”
 He asked me to lend him my dictionary.

b. Tường thuật lời khuyên (Advice) dùng cấu trúc: advise somebody (not) to do something.
Lời khuyên: - Had better, ought to, should, must
- Why don’t you + V?
- If I were you, I’d (not) + V…
Ex: “Why don’t you take a course in computer?” my teacher said to me.
 My teacher advised me to take a course in computer.

c. Tường thuật lời mời (Invitation) dùng cấu trúc: invite somebody to do something.
Ex: “Would you like to have breakfast with me?” Tom said to me.
 Tom invited me to have breakfast with him.

d. Tường thuật lời cảnh báo (warn) dùng cấu trúc: warn somebody (not) to do something.
Ex: “Don’t touch the red buttons,” said the mom to the child.
 The mom warns the child not to touch the red buttons.

e. Tường thuật lời nhắc nhở (reminders) dùng cấu trúc: remind somebody to do something.
Ex: “Don’t forget to turn off the lights before leaving,” Sue told me.
 Sue reminded me to turn off the lights before leaving.

f. Tường thuật lời động viên (encouragement) dùng cấu trúc: encourage / urge somebody to do something
Ex: “Go on, take part in the competition,” said my father.
 My father encouraged me to take part in the competition.

g. Tường thuật lời cấu khẩn dùng cấu trúc: beg/implore somebody to do something.
Ex: “Do me a favor, please,” said the servant to his master.
 The servant begged/implored his master to do him a favor.

h. Tường thuật lời đề nghị , tự nguyện (offers) dùng cấu trúc: offer to do something.
Lời đề nghị: - Shall I + V ?
- Would you like me + to V?
- Let me + V.
Ex: Mary said to Ann, “Shall I get you a glass of orange juice?”
 Mary offered to get Anna a glass of orange juice.
“Shall I bring you some tea?” He asked.
 He offered to bring me some tea.

i. Tường thuật lời hứa (Promises) dùng cấu trúc: promise (not) to do something
Ex: “I’ll give the book back to you tomorrow,” he said.
 He promised to give the book back to me the next day.

j. Tường thuật lời đe dọa (threat) dùng cấu trúc: threaten to do something.
Ex: “I’ll shot if you move,” said the robber.
 The robber threatened to shoot if I moved.

2. Câu tường thuật với “gerund”

- Các cấu trúc của câu tường thuật với danh động từ:
S + V + V-ing: admit, deny, suggest…
S + V + preposition + V-ing: apologize for, complain about, confess to, insist on, object to, dream of, think
of…
S + V + O + preposition + V-ing: accuse..of, blame…for, congratulate…on, criticize…for, warn…
about/against, praise…for, thank…for, prevent…from…
Ex: “I’ve always wanted to study abroad,” he said.
 He’s dreaming of studying abroad.
“It’s nice of you to give me some fruit. Thanks,” Ann said to Mary
 Ann thanked Mary for giving her some fruit
“I’m sorry, I’m late,” Tom said to the teacher.
 Tom apologized to the teacher for being late
“Shall we meet at the theater?” he asked
 He suggested meeting at the theater.

3. Câu cảm thán trong lời nói gián tiếp

Ex: What a lovely dress!
 She exclaimed that the dress was lovely.
 She exclaimed that the dress was a lovely one.
 She exclaimed with admiration at the sight of the dress.

4. Các hình thức hỗn hợp trong lời nói gián tiếp
Ex: She said, “Can you play the piano?” and I said “no.”
 She asked me if I could play the piano and I said that I could not.
