Situation: An Indian couple whose husband aged 80 and his wife 72 year old
delivered a healthy normal child
Direction. Using and following scientific method, how did this couple bear a
child?
They applied or used the IVF which means In Vitro Fertilization that’s why the
couple bear a child from the age of 80 and 72. After the failed process they got
successfully pregnant on the third trial. Because in IVF or In Vitro Fertilization the
woman’s egg fertilized with a man's sperm outside the body.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the joining of a woman's egg and a man's sperm in a
laboratory dish. In vitro means outside the body. Fertilization means the sperm
has attached to and entered the egg.
The couple pray and believe that God give the child they want and pray for. They
don’t lose hope and continue on believing that someday it will come true.

It all start from ourselves to be a responsible person on earth. Several ways to promote
a sustainable living.
1. Proper throwing of garbage, we all know that plastic may kills our environment, so by
simple putting your garbage in a trash bags or in a proper place it has a big impact to
lessen the garbage anywhere. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
2. Planting more tree’s like in our organizations, we the scholars/KKDAT from Pilar
chapter together with the PNP implement a Tree planting campaigns, it has a big
contribution like produce fresh air, prevent flooding and landslides.
3. Be a member of community garden, planting vegetables in your backyard.
4. Start using natural than chemical.
5. Start reading books and playing outdoors activities. Mostly children nowadays are
addicted to gadgets, social media eyes are more exposed to brightness by doing
outdoor activities you become physical and mentality healthy.
6. Donate unused items to the mostly needed.
7. Take shorter showers, shut off water during brushing, add a brick to your toilet tank.
8. Be a volunteer and cooperate in the activities of your community.
State the contributions of the following terms below in the scientific development.
1. Telescope - These instruments helped us make the first valid measurement of the
speed of light. Telescopes have also helped us understand gravity and other
fundamental laws of the physical world. Telescopes have also helped us understand
the light that radiates from the sun and other stars.
4. Cell phones - Cell phones have become a necessity for many people throughout the
world. The ability to keep in touch with family, business associates, and access to
email are only a few of the reasons for the increasing importance of cell phones.
Today's technically advanced cell phones are capable of not only receiving and
placing phone calls, but storing data, taking pictures, and can even be used as
talkies, to name just a few of the available options.
5. Processed food - Food processing is the alteration of foods from the state in which
they are harvested or raised to better preserve them and feed consumers. As the
2007 World Food Prize Laureate Philip E Nelson said, “If you teach a person how to
process food, you can feed a village.” Food processing was probably the first
“technology” that was sufficiently successful such that it led to a segregation of
societies into discrete artisan industries.
10. Guns - One of the contributions of guns to our scientific development is that from the
early years of gunpowder warfare through to the current age, gun designers and
artillerymen were often schooled in ballistics, geometry, calculus, and other
mathematics disciplines which spread this knowledge to a far wider group of people
than would have been likely without guns.

HUMAN FLOURISHING
Ventilation Paper No. 6
I. After reading the article, answer the following questions on the spaces provided.
1. What is the main objective of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United
Nations?
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs, also known as the
Global Goals) are 17 goals with 169 targets that all UN Member States have agreed to
work towards achieving by the year 2030. They set out a vision for a world free from
poverty, hunger and disease, eradicate poverty. Health has a central place in SDG 3
“Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”, underpinned by 13
targets that cover a wide spectrum of WHO’s work. The SDGs aim to be relevant to all
countries – poor, rich and middle-income – to promote prosperity while protecting the
environment and tackling climate change. They have a strong focus on improving equity
to meet the needs of women, children and disadvantaged populations in particular so
that “no one is left behind”.
2. What is the standardized unit that measures resource use and waste?
Global Hectare (GHA) is the standardized unit that measures both the bio capacity of
the earth and the demand on biocapacity or ecological footprint. This would become the
basis in order to control and give balance on the consumption and waste of humans
with the natural resources.
5. According to the majority of people in middle-and high income countries, what puts
the planet and society at risk?
Overconsumption is what puts our planet and society at risk. Overconsumption brings
imbalance to our planet; it destroys and exhausts the life support system of earth and
thus, leading our lives at risk as well as putting our wellbeing at a critical state.
6. How much hectares should each of us consume annually based on the resources
available in the planet?
Each of us should consume a 1.8 global hectares annually as what is rested upon the
available resources on our planet. This is the margin by which determines the adequate
resources for each individual who resides on our planet to consume.
7. What are two indicators of the quality of life given in the article?
The two indicators of a quality life were life expectancy and happiness. These determine
that, even with an enough amount of resources to consume, we can still have the sense
of satisfaction and quality of our lives.
8. What crisis in the planet would force us to slow down if we do not do so voluntarily?
Climate change would become as a crisis that would stop us humans from
overconsumption of our natural resources. We cannot shun the fact about the laws of
nature; nature would still find its way to stop us from destroying it. Thus, if all of us
would not wake up and voluntarily slow down our consumption then, we should be
prepared for the consequences of our actions.
9. According to Hickel, what must be done instead of urging poor countries to “catch
up” with rich ones?
De-development or to “Catch Down” is what Dr. Jason Hickel encourage and urges all
of us especially those who live in highly developed countries in order for less developed
ones to keep pace with the drastic growth and changes that is happening around the
world.
10. How would the different areas if the world react to the idea of the “de-
development”?
I believe that there would be conflicting reactions from various parts of the world
when it comes to the idea of the de-development. Those who live in rich and well-
developed countries would have a hard time accepting such change and method of
promoting development and progress. On the other hand, it would become favorable for
those in less fortunate countries in promulgating such plan as anchored with the
objective of development. But despite of such dispute, I still believe that, with enough
information to be disseminated and that would make people to better understand its
advantages to all of us, our world, and especially our nature then, we can still find the
way to live by and accept the idea of de-development. After all, we could still improve
our lives and integrate quality to it even though we reduce and lessen our consumption.

Direction: Make a composition from the given topic “The Essence of Technology”.
Good Life Collage. Cut out pictures in magazines or newspapers that demonstrate how
technology has made the man’s desire for a happy life more realizable. You may also
opt to print out pictures from websites and other sources. Explain how these
technological advancements have made the campaign for the attainment of good life
easier or otherwise.
Technology is changing rapidly. Most people are using modern technology to do various
activities. Life has become more convenient and enjoyable. You will realize that the
recent development of technology has made it possible for us to lead more comfortable
lives.

3. Does technology always lead us to the good life? How and why?
I personally believe that technology is a tool to build a good life. But, is technology
always leads us to good life? Technology leads us to a good life and the same time it
doesn’t lead us to a good life either. It depends on how we define a good life.
Technology can affect us if we misuse it. So, balance between technology and
human labour is essential, technology never should overpower humans. There’s a
advantage and disadvantage in using technology.

2. What does Aristotle say about the good life? Does it still stand in the contemporary
world?
According to Aristotle, that having a happiness and good life is about virtue. According
to him, having a prosperity which can be accomplished by living a life according to virtue
is achieved by continually living in various manners or living with high morals. It is still
stands in the contemporary world? Definitely yes because people nowadays looking for
the materials that fit their satisfaction rather than gaining some experiences that
gradually help themselves to sustain their level of morality and goodness.
3. How is the progress of science and technology a movement towards the good life?
The role of technology is huge in the contemporary world because we’ve known that
we are in the modern world that barely needs technology to sustain our daily needs but
it can be included that technology helps us to shape our world and improving our way in
daily lives. Because of the technology we have a good life because it makes our lives
easier than before.

2. How do you reconcile the “need” for technology and the dilemma/s it faces?
The best way to reconcile the need for technology and the dilemmas it faces right
now particularly in ethical issues is intensive literacy or education. We can enumerate a
lot of dilemmas which technology is facing right now. I want to focus on one because I
believe these dilemmas should be addressed separately. Perhaps the one of the
greatest dilemma that technology is facing right now is the ethical issues like copyright
infringement, violation in intellectual property rights, computer crimes such as cyber
bullying, phishing, scamming and the likes.
