Professional Development Plan - 12 Months

Name: Nick Goodwin Date: 4/24/21

CURRENT SITUATION What professional development activities are you already undertaking?
Currently I am the GED Program Manager at the 501 c3 non-profit YouthCare.
YouthCare works with underserved young adults experiencing houslessness, with the
students ages 16-25. This activity is a huge part of what I want to do in the future which
is run a program as an executive director which focuses on black and brown youth taking
non-traditional pathways through education.

CAREER GOAL(S) What is your 12-month career goal? Make sure its SMART.
My 12 month career goal is to meet program outcomes which is to enroll 30 students in
our GED program and have at least 10 students graduate with their GED this upcoming
year as well as receive a 20% increase in salary in 12 months.

SKILLS GAP What skills, knowledge or resources do you need to achieve the career goal(s)?
I need to understand the barriers that students face to receive their GED as well as
understanding how I can best support my team which is two Seattle Public School
teachers and our GED case manager. I need better understanding of our budget and
how to utilize the money we have which is over 20,000$ for the year.

ACTIONS What actions will you take to address the skills gaps?
To address these gaps I will go to the Board of Directors financial understanding training
as well as the upcoming Supervisor trainings to understand both budgeting and
supervisory part of my role. I will receive trainings that include motivational interviewing,
phases of life training, and mental health awareness training to better understand
student’s needs.

EVALUATION How often will this plan be reviewed?

This plan will be reviewed monthly to see if I am on track for my goals and professional
development piece.
