Prerequisites

Script
This training course builds on knowledge of the following products and features:
• Oracle Inventory, especially item and catalog descriptive element creation. The OU
course Inventory Management Fundamentals provides preparation for defining the items
you then arrange into bills of materials.
• Oracle Engineering, especially Bills of Material (BOM) Model creation. The OU course
Implement and Use Engineering, which has Inventory training as a prerequisite, provides
preparation in creating BOM Models. BOM Models are commonly the basis of the
configuration models accessed by Oracle Configurator.

Terminology

Script
The following terms are important to know when working with Oracle Configurator:
A configurator is the part of an application that provides custom configuration capabilities for
products and services. Commonly, a window that can be launched from a hosting application
so end users can make selections resulting in valid configurations.
A configuration session is the time from launching to exiting Oracle Configurator, during
which end users make selections to configure an orderable product or service. A configuration
session is limited to interaction with one configuration model that is loaded when the session is
initialized.

Terminology

Script
A configuration model consists of structure, rules, and one or more user interfaces. The
configuration model represents the configurable product or service and is typically based on a
BOM Model. A configuration model represents the set of all valid configurations of a product
or service that can be ordered and delivered to a customer.
A configuration specifies a valid and configured product or service. It represents a particular
set of selections against a configuration model, commonly resulting in a BOM or bill of
materials.
