The advancements in the IT sector over the last two decades has significantly impacted human living
standards. While every invention and development in the world has both positive and negative use, I
strongly believe that the growth in the IT sector has numerous benefits in the foreseeable future, in
comparison to the drawbacks.
Firstly, the introduction of World Wide Web(WWW) is considered to be one of the revolutionary
discoveries over the last century. Development of this single technology has caused many other forms to
become obsolete, i.e. tapes, CDs, landlines phones. Any information around the world can be
transmitted to every corner of the globe instantly, rather than going there or waiting for a long time.
Entire libraries of information can be accessed from the palm of hands, making life easier and saving a
lot of time. Storage of data and knowledge has become cheap, reliable, and feasible in response to the
development of WWW.
Secondly, the introduction of mails has successfully replaced people’s mode of communications. Sending
letter or faxes from one location to another was significantly time consuming and costly, whereas mails
has made it faster and almost free due to the formation of WWW.
In contrary to the many benefits of IT, there are certain drawbacks. Due to lack of regulation of online
data, people are easily able to manipulate them to their will, and lead others astray. Children get easy
access to restricted or censored materials, which otherwise wouldn’t be the case. The online security
system is not completely safe, as a result people as well as organizations are not safe from hackers or
online abuse.
In conclusion, the drawbacks of the developments in the IT sector are considerable outweighed by the
advantages. People nowadays cannot even imagine a life without internet, as it may result in a collapse
of the entire civilization.
