ABSTRACT

Considering our research regarding conveyer belts their use in super marts, airports and other

areas where luggage is involved has been observed. So research, survey and other relevant data

suggests that these form an integral part of such places because their main purpose is regarding

the facilitation of general public in every possible way. Putting aside the commercial uses, there

are also some industrial uses associated with them. Some of the industrial uses include coal, gold

mining, where precipitates are transferred from mine on to the shore. In the first phase different

types of conveyer belts and their purposes have been discussed. Out of them we have selected

modular belt conveyors considering our scenarios.

Introduction.
The process of material handling is associated with the packaging and moving of

materials in an appropriate manner. So, it won’t be wrong to say that the main factors associated

wit hthe study include the nature of materials and the distance to be travelled on the belt. Some

of the best possible contributions for these different types of belts include global supply chain

management where they play an essential role in the packaging of materials. However, putting

commercial uses aside these can be a result of different bulk materials like coal, coke, graphite

etc.

Considering the commercial uses for such belts, these have a lot of different uses. Some

of the common uses include their use in grocery stores, trucking services, airports, transport

facilities. Their length can be as long as ten kilometers. The different models according to the

nature of these belts include some of the prominent types like flat-bed, modular, curved, cleated

and certain others. If the cost perspective is taken into account, then these belts are relatively

cheap. Unlike the labor costs involved in case of hiring workers in those businesses where no

conveyer belts are available. These play a key role in reducing the man power thereby facilitating

the businesses and other commercial and industrial purposes in every possible way.

The nature of each belt is different if the design and developmental factors are taken into

account. Some of the common aspects of the architecture include pressure, uploading levels

(higher/lower), diameters and mantainence. These factors have an effect on the torque being

generated as well as the effects on efficiency.

Modular Belts and their applications

Modular belts are not two way movements but are associated with movements within a

single loop. So, the designing architecture for such belts is usually composed of plastic in

hardened form. The formation is such that different parts are combined together for forming such

belts. These parts can also be replaced as per the ease and convenience. It won’t be wrong to say

that in case a part of the belt is out of order, it can always be replaced. The entire belt doesn’t

become out of order at all.

If the mantainence perspective is considered, then these belts are washable and there are

no special instructions involved. Therefore, the implemented mantainence strategies include

easier practices. There are many daily life applications associated with the belts. Some of the

common types include round corners like that of the arrival for the airport where luggage is

being circulated on a round loop. In case there are any elevations needed regarding the belt’s

operations, it won’t be wrong to say that special modifications require special costs. There is also

a lot of variety available within such belts such that these can be installed as per the requirements

of that place.

Other examples include grocery stores, vegetable shops and fruit shops. Another best

thing about the belts is that these are relatively easier to clean. Moreover, the penetration of

liquids in case of spillage is also negligible which won’t have any adverse effects on the

machinery.

Factors involved w.r.t Design

There are many factors involved considering the design with respect to the conveyor

belts. Some of the factors are as follows;

5
CONVEYOR BELT.

 Nature of the material

The first factor to be taken into consideration is about the nature for the material. This

concludes the design for the conveyor belts respective of other common factors like

temperature, humidity, material determination, volatility etc. As development of

conveyor belts is a lengthy process so it is necessary to plan the development effectively.

If done appropriately there will be no further complications.

 Mantainence requirements

Another most important factor is regarding the consideration for the mantainenece

such that how often it is necessary to clear the recommended parts for ensuring the proper

functioning of the belt and also that how much will be the mantainence and labors cots in

that regard. Appropriate planning is necessary for long term business success.

 Dimensions, speed and capacity

Dimension, speed and capacity are also the important factors and should be

adjusted as per the convenience. The adjustment of diameter should be such that there is

no stress on the loader. Moreover, the centroids, control box etc. should also be properly

utilized.

 Area and diameter

The movement for the belt is associated with the area and diameter for the belt.

However, the length, width and height should be considered for proper planning.

Design and Analysis

If the design perspective is considered, then it won’t be wrong to say that the modular belt

architecture mostly is composed of plastic rods. Their measurements can be 124mm, 102mm or

180 mm wide. The width for the modular belts cannot be more than 608mm. Moreover, if the

design perspective is considered then the use of “polyamide pins” shall be prioritized considering

the fact that there shall be no water in case of spillage or smell in environment.

Thus, considering the technical characteristics for our belt. These are as follows;

Characteristics Measurements
Acetal radius flush grid 2,29 kg/m
Acetal flat top belt 2,14 kg/m
Height radius flush grid 13 mm
Height flat top belt 10 mm
Belt pitch 25,4 mm
Temperature range 1 degree to 40 degrees Celsius

The dimensions for the belt are as follows;

Conveyor Belt A width 374 mm

Usable Belt B width 304 mm
 Conveyor Beam

The dimensions for the conveyor beam are as follows;

7
CONVEYOR BELT.

The effective track length for the beam will be 2,1 m i.e. its weight will be 18 kg/m. Moreover,

the total length will be 3m.

 Beam Spacer Kit

The dimensions for the beam spacer kit are as follows;

 Beam Support Brackets:

The beam support brackets are as follows;

8
CONVEYOR BELT.

The dimensions for them are such that the first beam support bracket will have six M10 screws.

The second bracket will have 2 M10 screws alongside having 2 spacers.

 Side Rail

The important part of our conveyor belts is side rails. These shall be as follows;

Two side rails will be used which have a length of 3m. Furthermore there shall be a side rail and

an outer rail.

 Drill Fixture

The drill fixtures to be used in the construction are as follows;

Conclusion

As mentioned in the previous part of the report, we had chosen conveyor modulator belt. Thus, it

served and promoted reliability in every possible way. So, the importance of the belt has been

reflected upon within the report serving a lot of different purposes. However, the proposition has

been made considering the important aspects as a result of which there shall be no related

problems considering the design perspective.
